It has been a while since Chris Evans‘ Captain America appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, with the ongoing Multiverse Saga, there is always a chance for his return. Anthony Mackie, who took over the mantle of Captain America, recently hinted that Evans’ character is still alive in the MCU. Here are five upcoming MCU movies that could potentially feature Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America.

Deadpool 3 will be the first Marvel Studios movie in which the Multiverse will truly “crack open” and make its impact felt across the entire franchise. While Chris Evans may not be the first choice fans think of for a cameo, a key report suggests that he could appear alongside Wade Wilson and Wolverine. Deadpool 3 is rumored to visit other Marvel franchises formerly under the 20th Century Fox umbrella, including Evans’ Fantastic Four team. Evans could appear as a Multiversal Cap Variant from another universe or the Earth-616 Cap.

Captain America: New World Order

Anthony Mackie is set to star in his first MCU solo movie as the new Captain America in Captain America: New World Order. With this being his first big movie as the Star-Spangled Avenger, and with old villains like the Leader and Thunderbolt Ross in his path, it could be a natural fit for a Chris Evans cameo. This would be the easiest avenue for a comeback, with Steve Rogers imparting his wisdom on the new Avengers leader.

Thunderbolts

Thunderbolts will bring together a unique team of heroes and former villains in a movie that will potentially serve as Phase 5’s big team-up outing. Bucky Barnes is set to serve as the “de facto leader” for the Thunderbolts, putting him in a position that’s usually been occupied by Steve Rogers with the Avengers. Bucky and Steve are still as close as ever, and the Winter Soldier may look to the former Captain America for guidance in his new leadership position. This would most likely be a cameo of some sort, utilizing old Cap with the Multiverse playing no factor in the plot.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

In Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is set to utilize a number of his Variants across the Multiverse to rule over all of time and space. Sam Wilson’s Captain America is already set to appear, but there could be a small window for Steve Rogers to appear as well, offering guidance and leadership to Sam Wilson and the Avengers. This would also give Evans credits in all five Avengers movies to date.

Avengers: Secret Wars

Avengers: Secret Wars is rumored to bring in heroes and villains from every corner of the Multiverse. While fans will be focused on non-MCU heroes joining the Marvel Studios story, seeing Chris Evans return as Captain America here could have a big impact. The introduction of Battleworld, which features multiple Variants of countless characters from across the Multiverse, could provide a perfect avenue for Evans to make a comeback. He may even reprise his role as the Human Torch from his Fantastic Four movies.
