With Phase 4, Marvel Studios remains committed to Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the biggest names in the MCU. The galactic heroes will be on screen again with Guardians Of Galaxy: Volume 3, with Chukwudi Iwuji in the film.
Currently, Director James Gunns‘ newest film, DC’s Peacemaker, is streaming on HBO max. He and his Marvel team are working to spice up MCU comic space narrative. Introducing Will Poulter as the super-being Adam Warlock will contribute to this development, albeit the internet rumors that Chukwudi Iwuji will also have a big part in the film. As with many MCU characters, Gunn and Marvel have provided a few glimpses of Iwuji’s role, hinting that he will have a significant presence in the MCU.
Iwuji’s most recent interview with Hollywood Reporter may have hinted at what is coming in the Guardians threequel, though he has stayed silent about most of it. Chukwudi Iwuji discussed how he is going to debut in the MCU and hinted at how powerful his character would be.
During production of Warner Bros’ Peacemaker, where he was also working with director James Gunn, the MCU picked Iwuji for the role early in the process. He had received positive feedback from screen tests in May 2021. The actor is eager to bring some extra elements to the MCU with his role.
“It was near the beginning of production. I knew very early. It was a crazy time. For that to be offered to me so early in production, it was a big deal for me. I think it was around April, maybe March [of 2021], but we didn’t do the screen test until May or something like that. So it was pretty early. James had seen enough of me at that stage to decide he wanted me to be a part of Guardians.”.
“Powerful. Extremely powerful. Complex. James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it.”
In response to a question regarding his role in Guardians 3, Iwuji referred to himself as “extremely powerful, and said he was “complex,” more than any other character in the Marvel universe.
There are plans by the MCU to finally adapt the Fantastic Four and X-Men into the narratives in the future. This doesn’t mean, however, that the MCU is doing anything less than amazing with films at hand, as with Iwuji’s yet-to-be-named character in Guardians 3. Throughout their time working on Peacemaker, Gunn and Iwuji have both emphasized the character’s strength and importance, although they have both remained silent about what exactly this position entails.
The strongest rumors around Iwuji’s role have focused on him being the MCU’s High Evolutionary. He could be the next threat for the galactic heroes after Ronan the Accuser and Ego the Living Planet. However, the actor has not responded to rumors at all, being well aware of Marvel’s tendency to keep secrets.
Telepathy and matter manipulation are some of the intense abilities High Evolutionary possesses. He could be a tough fight for the Guardians of the Galaxy superhero squad. It is probable that they will run into the Sovereign in Vol. 2 again as they search for Gamora. The question of Iwuji’s role as High Evolutionary won’t be resolved for some time, but judging by chatter, his significance will be immense.
Filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently underway and the film is due in theaters on May 5, 2023.
