Ahsoka Star Rosario Dawson Addresses Physical Demand For Her Role

Rosario Dawson, who plays Ahsoka on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, recently talked about how physically demanding it was to prepare for the show’s eponymous role.

“Man, I’m not a workout-y guy,” Dawson told Vanity Fair, “and I’m in my 40s getting into the most physically demanding role of my life.” “[Ahsoka] isn’t a somebody who gets fatigued easily. I’m not going to be able to play this like a human. She is a never-say-die alien. She is meticulous. She is at the master level. The challenge for me is to stand up and say that…. I’m not going to work out for myself, but I’ll work out for Ahsoka any day of the week. I’m a great fan, and I don’t want to be watching and thinking, ‘Yo, Ahsoka’s hand appears wobbly there.'”

Ahsoka Tano made her first appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008. Despite a rocky start, Ahsoka became a fan favorite as she progressed from padawan to Jedi Knight. Throughout the animated Star Wars Rebels series, Ahsoka grew and changed until she ultimately made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, played by Dawson. A popular piece of fan art showing the Daredevil actor as the Clone Wars and Rebels figure helped her land the part.

In December 2020, Lucasfilm announced Ahsoka as a spinoff of The Mandalorian, alongside other Star Wars shows like The Book of Boba Fett and The Rangers of the New Republic. The series began production in May 2022, following a social media announcement. The series will be written by Clone Wars screenwriter Dave Filoni, who believes the series will present a serialised plot rather than having distinct adventures in each episode.

The plot of Ahsoka is unknown at this time. Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the prequel trilogy, will, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, reprise his role in the TV series. Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, has confirmed Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s role in Ahsoka. The show is set to premiere in 2023.
