It’s not clear if Amber Heard will appear in the final cut of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, according to the actress herself. Heard first appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, then reprised the role in James Wan’s Aquaman solo film. As a co-lead with Jason Momoa, she played a significant role in the 2018 film.

The sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reunited Heard with the role she originated, and she shared photos of her training and traditional red hair on social media in preparation. Even so, she’s been largely absent from the film’s marketing materials up to this point. It has been a month since Johnny Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, was put on trial for defamation. It has become clearer during the trial that Heard has a role in Aquaman 2 after she spoke about it several times.

Her return to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been the subject of new revelations by Amber Heard (via CBS News), who said that she was originally released from her contract before filming began.

“They released me from my contract. And, I fought to stay in it, and they kept me in it; I just don’t know how much I’m in, actually, of the final cut.”

Heard said later when discussing her involvement in the film’s sequel.

“I don’t know if I will even be in the final cut or how much I will be. It was difficult to stay in the movie.”

Since the numerous legal battles between Heard and Depp have arisen since their divorce, much has been made of her involvement in the Aquaman franchise. A petition with 4.2 million signatures calling for the axing of Heard from Aquaman 2 has gone viral. Her on-screen chemistry with Momoa was also cited as a factor in her return for the prequel’s sequel. Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series have both been taken away from Depp due to their legal issues.

Producers have said that Amber Heard’s inclusion in Aquaman 2 was never under question, but her court testimony suggests otherwise, particularly her claim that she was released from her contract prior to filming even beginning. Additionally, Heard asserted that she was offered ample scripts that proceeded to reduce her role in the film, reducing overall her screen time markedly compared to the original film. There’s no telling how much of the trial will affect Heard or Depp’s careers when the trial is over, which is being live-streamed. It’ll be intriguing to see how this plays out in Aquaman 2 and any subsequent sequels when Mera makes her appearance.
