Rumors say that Olivia Wilde is joining Marvel as a director for one of the studio’s franchises. The actress and Don’t Worry Darling filmmaker spoke about directing the female-focused film and a confidential project she is working on for the Disney- and Sony-owned superhero franchise. According to the reports, Olivia Wilde will direct a Spider-Woman film.

Olivia Wilde’s interest in the possible Spider-Woman film was initially reported in August 2020. There have been only a few updates since then.
According to previous Wilde hints, it could possibly be linked to the MCU. Especially since Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures now share Spider-Woman.

Surprisingly, Sony has already begun filming Madame Web, starring multiple different forms of Spider-Woman. The film stars Dakota Johnson, Celeste O’Conner, Anya Corazon, Julia Carpenter, and Cassandra Web.
Rumor has it that Wilde will direct a Spider-Woman movie featuring Jessica Drew.

Woman superhero films have become increasingly common as more female directors take on these concepts, as Olivia Wilde apparently did with Spider-Woman. Chloé Zhao directed Eternals, Anna Boden co-directed Captain Marvel, and Patty Jenkins directed both Wonder Woman films for the DCEU.

Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman’s secret identity in the comics, is one viable option, notably because she’s about to appear in “Into the Spider-Verse” and was part of the first Secret Wars mini-series. Because Marvel Studios has already confirmed a live-action “Secret Wars” adaptation, having Jessica star in her own standalone film makes sense if that is the path Marvel has chosen.

She said in an interview that being on set is “absolutely all-encompassing,” showing a difficulty that working mothers all over the world are experienced with, even if their circumstances aren’t as spectacular as directing and starring in major feature films. This is the excitement Olivia Wilde offers to Marvel Studios, and it’s ideal for Spider-Woman’s standalone movie.
