Hayden Christensen prominently starred as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, which ended in 2005. Now, about 15 years later, he will reprise the role that made him famous in the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi show.
There he will be crossing lightsabers with Obi-Wan and setting new Star Wars records. Thankfully, that isn’t the only show he is returning for. After all, it would have been a waste if he didn’t come back for any more Star Wars shows.
But he will be coming back to star in the Ahsoka show as Anakin/Vader. And maybe that show will help resolve a question regarding the Chosen One prophecy.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) celebrated Hayden Christensen’s return in her show as Anakin/Vader. She captioned the post as:
“Skyguy, …They know!!! See you soon, Snips.”
Viewers of Star Wars animated shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels will understand the sweet reference to Anakin and Ahsoka’s nicknames for each other. Now, her comment does seem to indicate that we will be seeing Christensen mainly as Anakin rather than the feared Darth Vader. Previously, Ahsoka and Anakin had interacted only in animation.
So the prospect of a live-action encounter between these two characters is excellent news for the fans. Most Star Wars fans think that this encounter mostly means flashbacks to The Clone Wars.
But some fans also think that Ahsoka might meet her mentor as a Force Ghost. We first saw Anakin’s Force Ghost in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Recent Star Wars comics have confirmed that he did stay active after the defeat of the Empire.
Note that Ahsoka is set half a decade after the events of Return of the Jedi. So Anakin may want to visit his former padawan. Due to this, the show can reflect on the prophecy of the Chosen One.
Ahsoka already knew that Anakin was thought to be the Chosen One. The Jedi interpreted it to mean that he would eradicate the Sith. But that didn’t happen in the way everyone had expected it to.
Anakin’s transformation into Vader shook Ahsoka’s faith in the Force. This was one of the reasons why Ahsoka never thought of herself as a Jedi throughout Star Wars Rebels.
Now, Ahsoka also doesn’t know that Anakin was the one who killed the Emperor to save his son. So if Anakin does show up as a Force Ghost, he will be able to explain Ahsoka his side of the story entirely.
As such, the two of them will reflect on the prophecy and how it ended up playing out. It will be insightful to see the two Jedis reflect on the prediction, especially since one of them is the Chosen One himself.
George Lucas didn’t give many details about the Chosen One prophecy, but Claudia Gray’s book titled Master & Apprentice did help reveal the context of the Jedi prophecies.
Now, some of them are still unexplained. But there’s a hint that the Force was out of balance due to “the sin done to the nameless.” Know that Star Wars: The High Republic transmedia initiative by Lucasfilm has designs of a creature known as “the Nameless.”
So the hidden truths about the Chosen One Jedi prophecy may soon get explored. Due to this, Ahsoka is currently the most exciting upcoming Star Wars TV show on Disney+.
The interaction between Ahsoka and Anakin can shine a light on their relationship and the new themes of the galaxy far, far away. As such, it will help the whole Skywalker Saga come together.
So even though the Chosen One prophecy remains one of the most mysterious concepts in Star Wars, Ahsoka can shed light on that mystery and help fans understand it better.
