An all-star cast of actresses and actors will appear in Marvel’s upcoming film Eternals, which introduces a whole new bunch of superheroes to the MCU. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao is helming the next MCU origin film, which will examine the existence of a group of cosmic immortals who have lived on Earth for hundreds of years but have chosen not to intervene in human disputes until the evil Deviants are involved.
As Thena in the next MCU film, Eternals actress Angelina Jolie sat down for a Q&A with Empire to discuss her impending MCU debut.
Jolie initially acknowledged that she did not lean toward superheroes or science fiction pictures. However, she changed her mind after feeling like something else was occurring in the film’s narrative. Here’s her response;
“I don’t usually lean towards superhero or sci-fi films. It’s not usually what I’m looking to do. It felt like something else was happening in this film, though. It was very character-driven.”

Aside from her comments about turning down a well-known superhero role before Eternals, Jolie refused to reveal which one it was out of respect for the actress who took on the role.
Kingo’s actor Kumail Nanjiani said that presenting all of the Eternals in one film wasn’t “easy,” noting the premise that all these superheroes aren’t Captain America or Spider-Man. This is what he said;
“These guys aren’t Spider-Man or Captain America or the Hulk. A lot of hardcore fans won’t know who the Eternals are. Introducing them all at once, that isn’t easy.”
It was at this point that Jolie admitted that the Eternals squad is a “really equal family,” and that she wanted to join them. “It’s not one of us in front and other characters behind. It’s this really equal family. And I wanted to be a part of this family.”
Thena
Angelina Jolie hasn’t held back when it comes to discussing her enthusiasm about Eternals. Specifically, her most recent remarks just add to the growing list of things to look forward to. Given that none of the heroes have yet made their live-action debuts, the actress’ comment about the film being extremely character-driven should come as a pleasant relief.
As a result, it seems like Eternals will have a diverse cast of characters that will appeal to a wide range of viewers. It’s also appropriate that Jolie referred to the cast as a “family” once again. The cosmic immortals’ familial dynamic has already been hinted at in the teasers. For this reason, it will be fascinating to see how that plays out in the storyline of the film.
It’s clear that Kumail Nanjiani thought it was a difficult job to introduce all of the Eternals in the film. The Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge success for Marvel Studios, so it’s possible that the same may happen for The Eternals, particularly given the cast’s glowing reviews and the fascinating vision of Chloe Zhao, the film’s award-winning director.
Angelina’s supposed roles in Marvel before Thena are a mystery. Over a decade ago, Entertainment Weekly brought forth a noteworthy piece of news. The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who is otherwise known for his misogynist scripts and undone Wonder Woman movie, shared that Angelina Jolie was the one for him.
“For me, Wonder Woman was basically Angelina Jolie,” he said. “She spends a lot of time flying around. She works in a lot of different countries. She’s very global. And she’s appalled by the way people treat each other.”
A fan on Twitter reminded us of how well everything did eventually work out for Jolie and the fans. This is what their tweet read;
Angelina Jolie turning down Joss Whedon as she should. Thena came at the perfect time and Jolie will introduce the iconic Thena to the world.

Another fan exclaimed that Angelina Jolie is the best part of the movie. Meanwhile, a third fan shares that they are “eternally grateful to Marvel for casting Angelina Jolie.” Here is what their tweet said;
I am eternally grateful to Marvel for casting Angelina Jolie as Thena. They really hit the jackpot with this one. Angelina Jolie in action scenes is always a treat to watch.#Eternals pic.twitter.com/zdSfUmtNNl
