Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Lara Croft in the 2001 film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, was a huge box office success, grossing over $275 million worldwide. However, Jolie has since expressed her regrets over her role in the film. Despite the film’s popularity, Jolie wasn’t satisfied with how her character was portrayed on screen. She felt that the way Lara Croft was made to look wasn’t “s*xy or real at all,” and that the filmmakers couldn’t adjust everything to her liking.

Jolie had three months to prepare for the movie and pushed herself to the limit by doing her own stunts, which she has continued to do in her other movies. However, her dissatisfaction with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider didn’t stop her from taking on new challenges and pushing herself to the limit in her career.

Jolie’s Initial Doubts About The Role

Jolie initially had doubts about accepting the role of Lara Croft in the movie. She felt that the character didn’t suit her and declined the offer at first. However, Jolie’s love for traveling and doing her own stunts won her over. She was promised the opportunity to travel the world and train with the British military, which was enough to convince her to take on the role.

The Legacy Of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider remains one of Jolie’s most recognizable roles, but it also remains a point of regret for her. While the movie was a huge commercial success, it wasn’t enough to satisfy Jolie’s creative vision for the character. Despite this, Jolie credits the film for teaching her the value of doing her own stunts, which she continues to do in her other movies.

The sequel to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, was released in 2003 but did not perform as well at the box office, grossing only $156 million compared to its predecessor’s $275 million. However, Jolie’s legacy as Lara Croft remains intact, and her regret over her performance in the film has not dampened her love for taking on new challenges in her career.
