James Gunn is recognized for directing a number of significant comic book projects, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel and The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for DC. It was revealed last month that Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as the co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a new organization created to take the place of struggling DC Films. Gunn is nevertheless working on two more Marvel projects. Both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the holiday special of the same name will be released in theatres the following year. Given his expanded responsibilities at DC, these are probably Gunn’s final Marvel-related endeavors, but some DC fans aren’t pleased that the filmmaker is still promoting Marvel.

In a recent tweet, the director of The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the new DCU head boss, James Gunn, shared the date of his final day at Marvel Studios.
“I am both DC and Marvel until May, as was made quite clear in all publications. I’ve spent the majority of the last ten years working on the Guardians trilogy, and I won’t give up on them or the tens of thousands of people who contributed to them at the last minute. “If you love both, nothing will come to an end.”

Surprisingly, several fans were upset with Gunn for siding with both sides.

More fans need to hear what Gunn said: “The world won’t end if you love both.”

Although the movies made by the two studios may be naturally competitive, this does not imply that fans can only favor one or the other.

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige said that “he’ll be first in line” to see what Gunn does with the DCU, then anyone should be able to grasp how it’s acceptable to be a fan of both DC and MARVEL.

The new strategy for the DC movies, according to Gunn, will tell “the Biggest Story Ever Told.” David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros., also seemed to be happy with their job.

Fans should definitely anticipate a little more of that than usual given Gunn’s fondness for specialized characters. However, ideally, he won’t let those traits prevent him from attempting to reunite the core of the Justice League once more—hopefully, this time creating a history.

There are still two Guardians of the Galaxy projects in the director’s pipeline for Marvel fans who are disappointed by his departure from the MCU. The first is Vol. 3, which premieres in cinemas on May 3, 2023, and the second is The Holiday Special, which debuts on Disney+ the next week.
