While studios like Marvel and Warner Bros. hope to make a name for themselves in 2022, the year is already jam-packed with big-budget releases. Avatar 2, the long-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar, is also in the mix. Due to unprecedented delays, this sci-fi blockbuster is finally on its way to the big screen.

Avatar became the highest-grossing film in box office history in 2010 thanks in large part to its groundbreaking special effects. For a brief period, Avengers: Endgame from the MCU held the top spot at the box office before Avatar was re-released and reclaimed the crown.

Even though James Cameron has hinted at up to four more films in the series, Avatar has been in theaters for more than a decade. Even though Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 filming appears to be moving forward, many moviegoers have forgotten about Avatar 2 because of its lengthy delay.

Fans may now have a better idea of when they can expect to see the first glimpse of their return to Pandora, thanks to an exciting new development.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a Marvel Studios film, is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022, and Disney intends to debut the first trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar 2 before it.

To kick off the worldwide marketing for the December 2022 sequel to a 13-year-old cinematic phenom and to generate some extra dollars for Doctor Strange 2, Disney plans to use this strategy for both of their 2022 blockbusters.

To compete with other summer blockbusters, Doctor Strange 2 is counting on its Multiverse-breaking plotline and dozens of guest appearances. Now that Disney owns the Avatar franchise, it makes sense to promote Avatar 2, which has the potential to be just as successful as the original.

Avatar currently has a box office lead of about $50 million over Avengers: Endgame, despite the fact that the majority of that money was earned more than a decade ago. After the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Marvel Studios and Sony have the opportunity to promote another film with the same financial potential.

Even though Thor: Love and Thunder’s first trailer is expected in July, the release of an Avatar 2 trailer in May comes seven months earlier than expected. Disney, on the other hand, wants to give Avatar 2 as much attention as possible because fans have seen so much of Thor recently thanks to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and the two subsequent Avengers films.

Avatar 2 will premiere on the same day as Warner Bros.’ Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, allowing Disney to gain a small advantage over the competition.
