Disney’s Digital Release Of Avatar: The Way Of Water Has Provided Fans With A Sneak Peek Of An Upcoming Scene From Avatar 3, Revealing Some Exciting Character Development And Plot Points.
Disney’s digital release of Avatar: The Way of Water has provided fans with a sneak peek of an upcoming scene from Avatar 3, which seems to reveal some interesting character development. Let’s take a closer look at what has been unveiled.
One of the bonus features of The Way of Water, titled “Inside Pandora’s Box – Building the World of Pandora,” includes a script excerpt from Avatar 3. This excerpt describes an exchange between Jake and Quaritch regarding Jack Champion’s Spider, referring to both men as the boy’s “fathers.” It then references a new character named Va’ru before describing Neytiri’s reunion with her family, where she brings back Norm, who is stunned to see Spider breathing without a mask.
According to the script, Spider responds to Norm’s shock by saying, “I’m good on the whole air thing,” which is surprising since he was unable to breathe on Pandora in Avatar 2 due to being human and not Na’vi.
The next scene takes place inside the High Camp Grotto where the Sullys reunite with the Omaticaya. Tuk runs to embrace Mo’at, her grandmother. This is followed by a scene involving Quaritch and Wainfleet at Bridgehead, flying past a structure in the harbor that looks like an oil rig crossed with a nuclear reactor. The scene ends with a demonstration of what this structure can do, which includes a bright light and a shockwave.
The bonus features also included actual behind-the-scenes footage of Spider hugging a Na’vi character, which may be related to the Avatar 3 plot point of him being able to breathe on his own since he’s not wearing a mask but still appears to be in an exterior environment.
The information revealed in The Way of Water’s digital release may have spoiled some major plot points for Avatar 3. Audiences now know something major and mysterious happens to allow Spider to breathe on Pandora, and it seems his relationship with both Jake and Quartich will advance in the threequel as well.
However, it’s worth remembering that much of the Avatar franchise’s appeal lies in how the film is executed and not necessarily in the plot itself. Neytiri’s Zoe Saldana also confirmed that Avatar 3 still has more to film, which means that the script in the sequel bonus features may be an old draft and not what will actually play out on screen.
While the leaked information from The Way of Water’s digital release may concern and frustrate some fans, it’s still exciting to get a glimpse into the upcoming Avatar 3. Perhaps James Cameron will have more to share in the coming months leading up to the film’s debut.
