Jonathan Majors, the actor set to play the villain Kang the Conqueror in Avengers 5, may face up to a year in jail if found guilty in his assault case. The case came to light in late March, with the actor’s representatives releasing text messages from his girlfriend in an attempt to prove his innocence. However, this move backfired, and several women have since come forward alleging Majors of similar abuse.

Details Of The First Court Hearing

Majors attended his first hearing for the case through Zoom for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. The office made public a superseding complaint with a charge of third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of 12 months in jail or a three-year probation. During the hearing, Majors did not enter a plea and only gave short responses. The next hearing is set for June 13, where the actor is required to appear in person.

Lawyer’s Statement

After the hearing, Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, criticized the DA’s case against her client, claiming to have “provided the District Attorney with irrefutable evidence that the woman is lying.” She further claimed that this was a “witch hunt” against her client “driven by baseless claims.” Chaudhry also stressed that “there are no new charges” against Majors.

Chaudhry accused white officers at the scene of ignoring Majors’ injuries caused by his ex-girlfriend and taunting her client. Additionally, she lamented that none of the officers present “investigated the assault of Mr. Majors,” and the DA “has not indicated any intention to pursue charges against the woman.”

During the hearing, Judge Rachel S. Pauley reminded Majors that he must abide by the order of protection barring him from further contact with the plaintiff, his former girlfriend. She also warned him that if he failed to appear in court on June 13, a warrant could be issued for his arrest within 48 hours.

Majors’ lawyer further claimed that they had obtained “even more video evidence of his innocence” but had yet to share it “for fear the DA will tip the woman off to change her story again.”

The public will have to wait until the next hearing to learn more about the case. However, Majors’ assault allegations have already caused him to lose several roles, and his part as Kang the Conqueror in Avengers 5 could also be in jeopardy.
