2021 was a dismal year for the box office because of the ongoing pandemic. But there was one movie that came out at the very tail end of the year that revived it. It was Spider-Man: No Way Home. The biggest cinematic stunner of the year from Sony and Marvel Studios arrived after months of fan anticipation.

It got unprecedented positive reviews from critics and fans, both. Over time, it became the biggest box office success story of the pandemic era. Also, it is still steadily climbing the charts to beat records held by movies released before the plague.

Its domestic box office total now stands at $673.5 million domestic and counting. So, the movie is well on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

Most of the plot and action is focused on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. But Cumberbatch clearly has a vital role to play in the movie. He reprises his role as Doctor Strange for the fifth time in the MCU. His mystical magician is the voice of reason in Peter’s multiverse-breaking movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to connect straight to Doctor Strange 2. May 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will explore the concept of the multiverse in greater depth than even No Way Home.

Fans think that Doctor Strange will feel the effects of doing the spell to erase Peter Parker’s identity from everyone’s minds. Also, the first trailer for Doctor Strange 2 was No Way Home’s second post-credits scene. So, what does Benedict Cumberbatch think about it all?

Cumberbatch is on a high right now. He has received critical attention and appreciation for his role in the film “The Power of the Dog.” In a recent interview with Deadline, the actor reflected on how things in his life have been.

There he talked about the reception of Spider-Man: No Way Home and also how fans reacted to the Doctor Strange 2 trailer. He said:

“I’m thrilled at the reaction to the teaser trailer at the end of Spider-Man; I’m thrilled at the reaction that film’s been having. I mean, it’s been a bit of a moment, to be honest.”

“A bit of a moment” is the right thing to say about No Way Home. It is living in its own pop-culture bubble and exceeding all expectations. Spider-Man: No Way Home’s success seems surreal.

Along with this there are also the accolades that Cumberbatch is receiving for The Power of the Dog. Also, add in the positive reception of the Doctor Strange 2 trailer and the overall hype surrounding it.

This means that it has full potential to be as great as the 3rd MCU Spider-Man movie while expanding the MCU’s multiverse. Doctor Strange 2 has just completed its reshoots and concluded what looks like a jam-packed shoot.

Cumberbatch has spoken about the Multiverse of Madness story and just how ambitious it is. He also said that he was a little wary of it. So, all the positive reactions to the trailer must have been a little confidence booster at least.

Also, after enjoying the multiverse shenanigans in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans got a taste of the darker side of that concept in the Doctor Strange 2 trailer. And everyone is excited to see more. Overall, this moment is far from over for Cumberbatch.
