The highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, Blade, has been a topic of discussion since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the production of Blade has faced several delays, including the departure of its original director in Fall 2022.

However, a recent update from The Hollywood Reporter has given hope to fans, as it confirms that actress Mia Goth, who has a role in Blade, will join the film’s production in June. This news aligns with insider DanielRPK’s claim that Blade will begin shooting on May 30.

Blade stars Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali as Eric Brooks, the Daywalker, who possesses a half-human, half-vampire physiology. Unlike other vampires, Blade is not affected by sunlight and has all their strengths but none of their weaknesses.

Blade’s story is expected to follow the comic book closely, but it remains unclear if the MCU’s version will be a period piece set in the 1920s, as rumored. However, if true, Blade’s slowed aging would not prevent him from taking part in any present-day MCU adventures.

Apart from Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth, Blade also features Delroy Lindo, Milan Ray, and Aaron Pierre, although their character roles have not been disclosed. While there were rumors about Kit Harington’s character, Dane Whitman, making an appearance in Blade, recent speculation suggests otherwise.

Potential Delays

Previously, there were concerns about Blade experiencing pre-production issues that could lead to further delays. According to Jeff Snieder’s podcast, The Hot Mic, Mahershala Ali’s specific requests for the film’s execution might have caused behind-the-scenes trouble.

However, The Hollywood Reporter’s latest update suggests that these issues have been resolved, and everything is on track to meet Blade’s late-May start date.

Fans might wonder how Marvel intends to bring supernatural creatures like vampires into the MCU. However, projects like Werewolf by Night and She-Hulk have already shown that otherworldly entities are well-represented in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
