Boba Fett Theory! Din Djarin Visiting Grogu Is Just A Step Towards Something Greater

Warning: Spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett episodes 1-5.

Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett ended with Din Djarin planning on visiting his foundling Grogu. This episode was a direct continuation of the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, where Grogu goes with Luke Skywalker to complete his training as a Jedi.

Also, it looks like Din himself has more things in common with a Jedi than not. After all, he is currently the owner of the Darksaber, which was a Jedi weapon originally.

In the season 2 finale, we saw Mando defeat Moff Gideon in fair combat to get the Darksaber. As such, now he is its rightful owner and also the prospective Mand’alore.

The Darksaber was created by the first Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizsla. He was the ancestor of Paz Vizsla, the only surviving member of Mando’s original clan.

Now, Din’s next step is to visit Grogu, who is currently being cared for by Luke Skywalker. As such, it looks like Mando’s journey with the black saber is moving at a rapid pace towards something unexpected.

In episode 5, Din Djarin was less than efficient and graceful while using the Darksaber. He ended up wounding his own leg and struggled to fight Paz Vizsla and the armorer.

After that, the armorer gave Din a breakdown on why and how the Darksaber gets heavier during combat. As we have seen in Star Wars, there is perhaps just one way to train oneself in lightsaber combat.

So even though Din does want to visit Grogu, this is perhaps a matter of greater significance. Being with Luke Skywalker, an actual Jedi master, who might be at the peak of his abilities, could help Din Djarin learn about lightsaber fighting styles.

And there’s precedence for this as well.

Parallels Between Sabine Wren And Din Djarin

In the Rebels animated series, Sabine Wren was trained in several lightsaber fighting styles by Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus. And this was a major part of her training.

In fact, it was the Mandalorian Sabine Wren who handed over the Darksaber to Bo-Katan Kryze. And this is why Bo doesn’t have any legitimate claim over Darksaber.

Now, pretty much anyone can train with the Darksaber, but Din needs to achieve emotional and mental clarity. This is the only thing that will allow him to connect with the black blade.

Din can train with the Darksaber, but keeping his mind calm and clear is something for which he will have to tap into the Jedi religion. And this could be passed on to him by Luke Skywalker.

As such, this would be a great way to parallel the events of the Rebels animated show. The show has made a great point of showing why Bo-Katan can’t have the Darksaber. Also, this time Din Djarin can avoid the curse of the Darksaber.

Din Djarin Needs Jedi Guidance

Mando is clearly mentally suffering as a result of the events of the two seasons of The Mandalorian. And this includes an internal struggle over what being a Mandalorian even means.

So spending time with a Jedi Master like Luke Skywalker will help Din clear and calm his mind. This will let him create a stronger connection to the Darksaber, thus making it lighter for use.

So it looks like the Jedi might end up becoming more important to Din Djarin’s story than previously thought. Till now, Mando has shown that he can be the rightful Mand’alor, even though he doesn’t seem to want it.

Also, he has shown that he deserves the Darksaber over Bo-Katan Kryze. If there does come an opportunity to train with Luke Skywalker, then it would just be too big to pass up.

And now that he understands how important Darksaber is, he has proven that he wants to fight for the right to use it. But as said, he needs a lot of training, and The Book of Boba Fett has set up Din Djarin’s journey through Grogu perfectly.

But will he go through with it? That remains to be seen. You can check out new episodes of The Book of Boba Fett every Wednesday on Disney+.
