Helaena Targaryen has played a quite small role in House of the Dragon. She has only appeared in a few scenes and fans have noticed that she has an eerie quality to her. As of yet, we have seen her playing with insects and speaking cryptically as if in riddles in both episodes 6 and 7. However, she has actually impacted the show a lot with her few appearances. It has been noticed that through those riddles she makes predictions of the future and prophecies. We already know about Aegon’s dream and it looks like Helaena Targaryen may have a similar quality.

Who are Dragon Dreamers?

Certain members of the Targaryen family can see prophecy like dreams that help them predict events of the future. They are known as Dragon Dreamers. They don’t necessarily have to be a Targaryen, as long as they are of Valyrian descent and have the blood of Old Valyria running through their veins. Moreover, these dreams usually involve dragons. Several such prophecies have been referenced in House of the Dragon itself. Daenys the Dreamer had predicted the Doom of Valyria. Then Aegon the Conqueror had foreseen the grave winters that would swallow Westeros and thus decided to conquer it. Lastly, Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones also had dragon dreams. She was plagued by a black dragon in her dreams. In a similar fashion, we believe that Helaena Targaryen is also plagued by such dreams. And we have the proof to support the same.

During House of the Dragon episode 6, Aemond is brought in front of Alicent for wandering into the Dragonpit in an attempt to claim a dragon. When Alicent is comforting Aemond and telling him that he too will have a dragon in time, Helaena says to herself, “He’ll have to close an eye.” This is a clear prediction of Aemond losing his eye to Lucerys during House of the Dragon episode 7. After claiming Vhagar, Aemond gets into a fight with Jacaerys, Lucerys, Baela and Rhaena. The fight eventually ends with Aemond threatening to kill Jace and Lucerys slashing Aemond’s eye in retaliation. In the aftermath, Aemond even mentions that its a fair trade considering that he gained a dragon and that too Vhagar.

She predicts the Dance of the Dragons between the greens and the blacks

During House of the Dragon episode 7, we find out that Helaena and Aegon are set to get married. Helaena is seen playing with a spider. This is when we hear her say, “Hand turns loom; spool of green, spool of black; dragons of flesh, weaving dragons of thread.” This is a clear reference and prediction of the Targaryen Civil War aka the Dance of the Dragons that is looming overhead the Red Keep. In fact, Hand turns loom could also be talking about Otto Hightower who is back as Hand of the King and will be inciting the war further. We have already seen him sitting on the Iron Throne in the preview for episode 8. This will antagonize Rhaenyra and Daemon and most probably lure them back to King’s Landing.

The last prediction is a little far fetched. Additionally if its true then its a major spoiler for what happens in the future. So if you haven’t read the books and don’t want to know what happens then spoiler alert. When the Dance of the Dragons is in full force, Aegon and Aemond lead a mission to kill Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meleys. However in this battle at Rook’s Rest, Aegon was severely injured and had terribly broken both his legs. He was unable to walk and required a very long time to recover from this incident. In the meanwhile, his brother Aemond wore the crown in his stead.

Now, during the same scene where she predicted Aemond losing his eyes, she said another line. While playing with the centipede she said, “The last ring has no legs at all.” This could be referring to the future where Aegon loses his legs. The only question is that does Helaena herself realize she is a dragon dreamer? And if she does then will she warn her siblings of their fate?
