In less than two weeks, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will debut, and it promises to be one of the most passionate MCU films yet, if not the most. With a worldwide gross of nearly $1.3 billion, the first movie was a huge hit for the series and practically guaranteed a follow-up. This was verified when Ryan Coogler agreed to direct and write the sequel in October 2018. At that time, Chadwick Boseman was reportedly discussing a deal worth $10 million for the follow-up and $20 million for a third “Black Panther” movie.

Chadwick Boseman declined the chance to read the Black Panther 2 script before he passed away, according to Coogler’s final memories of the actor.

In his final exchange with the deceased MCU actor, Coogler reportedly proposed asking “Boseman if he would like to read the script before he got notes” Chadwick turned the offer down.

On that final call, Boseman was “very exhausted,” according to Coogler. He observed that he could “know something was up” after the actor made a joke about kicking his wife, “Simone,” out of the room because “he didn’t want her to hear anything about the script” and her not wanting to leave him alone.

Boseman declined the director’s proposal to read the Black Panther 2 script, saying “it’s best if he can read it later” and “he didn’t want to get in the way of whatever suggestions the studio could have.” Later, Coogler learned that Boseman was simply “too exhausted to read anything.”

The director stated that he was thrilled to present this sequel concept to Boseman. He claimed that they began developing the sequel practically immediately after Black Panther. He claimed to have done a “deep dive” into a number of different stories and identified a “few characters he would engage with.”
Coogler said that Chadwick was always excited to come back. He stated that he felt like he had a better hold on T’Challa as a character after shooting the first movie and that this sequel was going to be a “T’Challa vehicle,” where they took the deepest dive into this guy.

Since the sequel’s approval years ago, a lot has changed, and the MCU fanbase is still grieving Boseman’s passing. Now with the release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which will cope with the repercussions of King T’Challa’s death, the emotions are bound to resurface.
