Chris Evans As Wolverine? Russo Brothers Hope Actor Returns As Mutant

It has been three years since Chris Evans last donned the shield and helmet of Captain America in an MCU film. Followers of the superhero franchise, though, will never forget his famous performance and are eager for his return to Kevin Feige’s production firm in some capacity. Speculation that he would soon join the Wolverines arose in the last hours. To what extent is that accurate?

The MCU lover’s idea has gained traction thanks to a remark made by Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers behind smash hits like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And they recently discussed in conversation with the Phase Zero podcast in which another Marvel role Chris Evans would shine as much as or more than in the skin of Captain America. Below, Joe elaborates on why Evans would be a fantastic choice to portray the Canadian mutant:

“Evans has incredible range and great physicality, and he’s real good at body control. He’s an incredible actor. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but he’s nothing like Captain America. Steve Rogers is very controlled and quiet, understated. Chris is energetic and funny and charismatic, and he brings a lot of energy to set. I’d love to see him do something like Wolverine.”

Will These Speculations Come true?

Chris Evans As Wolverine

Since Evans left the MCU during Avengers: Endgame, speculation has surfaced about his possible comeback. The plan has always been for him to simply resume his duties as Steve Rogers. The actor recently addressed this topic, claiming it would be difficult to bring back the character after his satisfying conclusion in the 2019 movie.

In addition, he approves of Anthony Mackie’s performance as the new Captain America. However, having portrayed Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four films before the MCU, he is more receptive to reprising the role in Marvel’s expanding cinematic universe. Chris Evans’ openness to playing other Marvel characters makes the idea of him portraying Wolverine less outlandish.

The Possibility of Chris Evans As Wolverine Looks Bleak

Even while the Russos make some very valid arguments regarding Evans’ versatility as an actor, I’m not sure he’d be interested in another Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Whoever is cast as Wolverine in Marvel’s X-Men remake will likely be locked into a multi-year deal that would force them to appear in an overwhelming number of episodes.

Even though I believe Evans is capable of holding his own, I fear his time as the main star in MCU movies may end. I could imagine him making a cameo appearance as Captain America or Johnny Storm, but that’s about it.

However, quite a few things have occurred since his last appearance. And Evans has a track record of shocking his audience. Chris Evans does not really seem eager to rejoin the MCU just yet. His most recent film, Lightyear, has him voicing the Toy Story universe’s space ranger, Buzz Lightyear.
