The return of Thor and the introduction of Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor had Marvel fans giddy. However, Chris Hemsworth’s nude butt scene in the teaser was the topic of much discussion. The Hollywood actor has now spoken out about his response, saying it has always been a ‘dream’ to perform in a situation like that.
At the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angelos, Hemsworth spoke with Variety and explained the significance of this event in his life.
“It was 10 years in the making that scene — kind of a dream of mine. ‘The first time I played Thor I took my shirt off and I thought, “You know what’s gonna sweeten this… a decade from now it’s all gonna come off”
Following Chris Hemsworth’s ovation from Marvel faithful for baring his butt on film, interest in the franchise reached new heights. It’s nice to see a male actor be so open about being nude, and the film’s director defended his decision by saying that the Australian actor had trained so hard for the part that he deserved a moment of glory.
“We all knew we wanted to do it from very early on. That was in the first draft of the script actually and Chris was on board as well, You know, I think you have a body like Chris, like, you know, even he understands. It would be just, it would be a waste to not show it off.”
There’s a lot to digest in Taika Waititi’s fourth Thor film, even if we still don’t know what to anticipate from the franchise in ten years. Waititi stated he wanted to draw attention to Chris Hemsworth’s butt when asked how the scene came together. “Chris works so hard, you’ve gotta show it off,” he exclaimed:
“Yeah, we gotta show off this body. My whole thing was like, Chris works so hard, you’ve gotta show it off. Don’t cover it up with all these suits and the cape and stuff, it’s not fair!”
Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is joined by an all-star cast that includes Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale (in his highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe debut) in this picture directed by Oscar winner Taika Waititi. Thor 4 will hit theatres on 8th July 2022.
