As DC Studios plans the Batman reboot, titled The Brave and The Bold, one director’s potential involvement has emerged. While co-CEO James Gunn outlined the first slate of films for DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, including The Brave and The Bold, talks with Ben Affleck about directing in the DCU seem to have stalled. However, with principal photography for another project, Superman: Legacy, scheduled to begin in January 2024, there is still ample time for Gunn to find a director for The Brave and The Bold.

Andy Muschietti’s Potential Involvement: Clues From The Flash Premiere

Andy Muschietti

During an early premiere of The Flash in Toronto, director Andy Muschietti was asked about his hypothetical interpretation of Batman if he were to direct The Brave and The Bold. Muschietti sidestepped the question, teasingly responding, “I don’t think I can talk to that…yet.” This evasive answer suggests that Muschietti may be in discussions to helm the reboot.

As pointed out by journalist Josh K. Elliott, Muschietti is already directing two distinct versions of Batman in The Flash, with Ben Affleck’s midlife crisis vigilante and Michael Keaton’s retired hero. Both versions share similarities, being older and past their prime. The upcoming Batman in the DCU will be portrayed as a father to Damian Wayne, implying the presence of other members of the Bat Family. This presents an opportunity for Muschietti to work with a younger Batman, a character who not only guides Damian but also Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and potentially others.

A Perfect Fit For The Brave And The Bold: Muschietti’s Experience And Familiarity

The Brave and the Bold

Muschietti’s previous work on Stephen King’s It adaptation showcased his ability to direct child actors, making him an ideal candidate to helm the next iteration of Batman. Moreover, James Gunn has shown a preference for collaborating with familiar faces when possible, making Muschietti’s involvement in The Brave and The Bold a logical choice. As audiences anticipate The Flash’s theatrical release on June 16, the possibility of Muschietti directing the Batman reboot adds to the excitement surrounding DC’s upcoming projects.
