Gamora has had quite a journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For openers, when she first appeared in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy; she was a subordinate to Ronan the Accuser, who was working for Thanos, the Mad Titan. Gamora, on the other hand, crossed sides and joined the Guardians; where she found a new family and a love interest in their leader, Peter Quill.

Gamora’s untimely demise occurred in Avengers: Infinity War; when Thanos shoved her from a cliff for his own personal gain. A timeline-displaced Gamora from 2014 didn’t resurface in the present day until Avengers: Endgame; where she helped fight in the film’s final battle before disappearing. Quill was last seen using his ship’s computer to conduct galaxy-wide searches for his missing love, despite her location being unknown.

Thor Odinson’s arrival on board, of course, put a stop to that search. Since Endgame, the Asgardian God of Thunder has been traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he will next be seen with them in Thor: Love and Thunder, his fourth solo feature. It’s unclear how big of a role the Guardians will play in the film, but based on the teasers, it appears that they split up with Thor early on.

Could The Search For Gamora Begin In Thor 4?

First and foremost, it’s possible that Quill and the others will receive new information on Gamora’s location. As previously stated, their ship, The Benetar, was searching the whole galaxy for their lost buddy. It’s probable that whatever part of the cosmos they’re in sets off an alert on their search parameters; so they leave Thor at his work and head off to find Gamora.

Is it possible that Zoe Saldana will appear in Love and Thunder? But that’s an other story. When it comes to Marvel Studios appearances; the usual rule is to expect the unexpected, even if what’s expected never happens. However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Saldana filmed a cameo for the film’s post-credits scene.

The fact that Gamora appears in the post-credits stinger of Thor 4 raises another issue: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be released before the 2023 release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Now, director James Gunn has hinted that Gamora isn’t even in the Holiday Special; leading one to believe that she’ll only appear in Vol. 3. This would make it difficult to have her meet the Guardians in Love and Thunder’s credits scene; which is sure to be an emotional moment, only to have her sit out the special and not appear again until the third film.

Whatever the case may be, the Guardians of the Galaxy will have a few more adventures before all is said and done. Vol. 3 represents the end of the current team and their plot, according to James Gunn. But there are still a few more appearances for Quill, Rocket, Nebula, and the rest of the gang until 2023.

Thor: Love and Thunder, from Marvel Studios, will be released in theaters on July 8.
