King Viserys made sure that his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen fully understands the importance of Aegon The Conqueror’s motives for installing the iron throne and bringing together the seven kingdoms. In House of the Dragon, it is shown that Aegon I Targaryen had a prophetic dream, in which he possibly saw the doom of Westeros by the army of the dead. Even though this has not been specifically mentioned, Game of Thrones fans understands very well what King Viserys was trying to explain to Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Game of Thrones fans also knows that Aegon The Conqueror’s dream was not even mentioned once in the series and that could mean two things for House of the Dragon. Either Rhaenyra passed on this valuable knowledge, but it was lost sometime later. Or, Rhaenyra was unable to pass on the message which explains directly why we don’t see it in Game of Thrones. We know that Daemon Targaryen does not know about Aegon’s dream, so it is possible that Rhaenyra may give this knowledge to one of her children, after all, knowledge is power (throwback to Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish).

The most important thing to note is that neither Danaerys nor Viserys Targaryen from Game of Thrones knew anything about Aegon’s dream. So if none of the Targaryens after The Mad King knew about it, what happened to the prophecy? Let’s find out.

Rhaenyra Targaryen Does Not Pass It On As Per Game of Thrones History

While Rhaenyra’s children may not carry on the prophecy to the coming generations, Rhaenyra herself will almost certainly load her proclaimed successor with Aegon’s dream. Viserys frequently highlighted the gravity and significance of Aegon’s dream, therefore Rhaenyra is unlikely to keep it a secret gave the possibility of being slain in the Targaryen civil war. As a result, Rhaenyra will most likely inform her heir Jacaerys Velaryon of the prophecy in House of the Dragon season 2. But who’s to say that Jace passed on the word before he died?

Rhaenyra’s sole known living successor at the time of her demise is her son Aegon the Younger, who eventually follows Aegon II Targaryen on the Iron Throne. It is so hypothesised that Rhaenyra recounting House of the Dragon episode 1’s Great Council is her explaining to her son the narrative of Aegon’s dream. Although Rhaenyra may inform Aegon III about the prophecy before she dies, Aegon is only ten when Rhaenyra Targaryen dies in Fire & Blood, so he is too young to comprehend or remember it in the future. He may even willfully dismiss the dream after the enormous horrors of the family infighting and losing many loved ones.

Why Game of Thrones Doesn’t Mention Aegon’s Dream?

Rhaenyra Targaryen was unable to restore what her father gave her, and hence w don’t hear anything about it in Game of Thrones. This may also be the reason why nobody south of The Wall, or even most people at The Wall treat the white walkers and the undead as mythology.

It was clear that the more south you travel in Game of Thrones’ Westeros, the lesser people believed in the white walkers. Even in House of the Dragon, most people don’t seem to be concerned with what’s beyond The Wall.
