Cregan Stark In HOTD Season 2 Will Make Ned Stark Look Like A Chump

Cregan Stark (and his head-chopping skills) will be introduced in House of the Dragon season 2. He is a much harsher version of Ned Stark.

House Stark will arrive in Season 2 of House of the Dragon, with Jacaerys Velaryon travelling to Winterfell to talk with Lord Cregan Stark. When it is to the reigning dynasty of the North, House of the Dragon has contrasted House Stark similar to Game of Thrones. Whereas Game of Thrones was primarily concerned with the lives and (sometimes disastrous) circumstances of the Starks, they have been almost totally absent from the prequel, save for a brief cameo by Lord Rickon Stark in episode 1. Decades later, House Stark is poised to make a larger effect on the world.

Ned Stark, in Game of Thrones, always said, “The one who passes the sentence must swing the sword,” and Cregan Stark, who will be introduced in the second season of House of the Dragon, will definitely be living up to these words. He wields the same Valyrian Steel greatsword that Ned Stark wielded in Game of Thrones, called ‘Ice,’ and will be putting it to quite some use. This is how Cregan Stark will be an amplified version of Ned stark in House of the Dragon season 2.

Cregan Stark Gives Harsher Punishments Than Ned Stark

Before you start reading about Cregan Stark’s chopped head collection, remember that this article contains major spoilers from George R. R. martin’s book Fire & Blood, which would form the stories of not only season 2 of House of the Dragon, but all later seasons to come.

We know that Lucerys Velaryon was sent to Storm’s End to speak terms with Borros Baratheon, while at the same time, Jacaerys Velaryon was sent to Cregan Stark. Jace, Rhaenyra’s firstborn son, will be shown in diplomacy talks with the brutal Cregan Stark, winning him to Rhaenyra’s cause. His expedition goes successfully of course, as Cregan Stark joins his forces with The Blacks. It would be quite interesting to see how the conversation between Jacaerys and Cregan go, as Cregan will not take Jace’s words at their face value, but will logically breakdown his statements until he is sure that what Jace is saying is true, and Aegon II Targaryen has usurped the iron throne.

Cregan Stark will play a significant role in the House of the Dragon’s saga near the conclusion of the Dance of the Dragons, or season two of House of the Dragon. Appearing at King’s Landing after most of the violence has ceased and King Aegon II Targaryen has been assassinated, he starts to clean up the mess, which includes authorizing a large number of executions. Cregan takes leadership and demands retribution for those who betrayed not just Queen Rhaenyra, but also those Greens, who turned against King Aegon towards the end.

Cregan Stark Falls In Love…With Killing

All jokes aside, Cregan Stark does fall in love with a young maiden named Alysanne Blackwood, who persuaded Cregan to execute Lord Corlys Velaryon due to his treachery against Queen Rhaenyra. Aegon the Younger, Rhaenyra and Daemon’s son, who later becomes the rightful king of the seven kingdoms, also coaxes Cregan Stark to add Corlys’s head to his severed-heads collection.

In the book Fire & Blood, the thing that prevents Cregan from cruelly killing 20 people is that they choose to join the Night’s Watch for their crimes, meaning that he unwillingly allows them to do so. Cregan eventually murders two key people; Ser Larys Strong and Ser Gyles Belgrave, but if things went according to him, he would have killed a lot more, a Stark contrast to Ned.
