If there is any character in House of the Dragon who is emotionally conserved to affection, it’s Daemon Targaryen. Even though Daemon actually loved his brother Viserys, he always showed resentment and competition towards him. Being too self-absorbed, Daemon Targaryen’s love life has also not been the most romantic, until Rhaenyra of course.

There’s no doubt that Daemon Targaryen loves his brother Viserys, his niece/wife Rhaenyra and his dragon Caraxes. As we see him utterly sad after his second-wife Laena Velaryon’s death, we can be certain that he had some feelings, if not for her then for their unborn child. Sadly, Laena tells her dragon VHagar to burn her alive before she could give birth.

Daemon Targaryen Definitely Keeps Caraxes Close To His Heart

One of the first times we see Daemon Targaryen “expressing his love” was when he was banished by King Viserys Targaryen to Dragnstone. Daemon flies there on his dragon Caraxes with his whore, Mysaria.

When Daemon is first shown with his dragon, he’s holding him tight and touching his forehead on Caraxes’ neck. This scene was explicitly shown for a good couple of seconds before Mysaria walks in.

Daemon Has Shown Love For Rhaenyra Targaryen Since The Beginning

In two very iconic sequences in House of the Dragon season 1, Daemon Targaryen touches his forehead on his niece Rhaenyra’s forehead. Firstly in the whorehouse in King’s Landing and secondly when was after getting married to her in HoTD episode 7.

Daemon Targaryen Does Love The King

In HoTD season 1, episode 4, Daemon gives away his crown as the King of the Blackwater and bends the knee to Viserys. After which he touches his forehead on his brother while hugging him. Nevertheless, there are more emotional scenes which prove further how Daemon loved his Viserys.

The scene where every House of the Dragon fan cried was when Daemn helped King Viserys to stand up straight, sit on the iron throne and wear the crown. This was reflected when he swears allegiance to Queen Rhaenyra in the season finale by giving her Viserys crown.

Daemon May Not Love His (⅔) Wives, But He Loves His Children

Daemon’s reaction to his first wife Rhea Royce’s death in episode 5 proved once and for all, that he did not love her. His limited interactions with Laena Velaryon also assure the viewers that he married out of duty and not love.

However, we do see Daemon touching his forehead on Laena’s pregnant belly, hinting that he does have a love for his children, though they may be unborn.
