How will Sony’s Doctor Strange happen? There is no denying that the MCU is a massive phenomenon. Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, on the other hand, is a massive interconnected world that is on the rise. Venom was the catalyst for this. As a result of The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s debacle, Sony was able to keep its own Marvel franchises alive. Furthermore, Tom Hardy’s portrayal of the alien symbiote was successful enough to warrant the start of an entire franchise.

Sony has been hard at work since then expanding that world even further. Morbius comes next, following Let There Be Carnage. For the first time in his career, Jard Leto stars in a vampire-themed film, set to open in theatres on April 1.

NWH has made Sony confident in its plans for the future. Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, will be one of these projects. Cast announcements for the film have only just begun. However, one recent report suggests that a new Doctor Strange-type character may be on the way.

Madame Web will be held in the same regard as Marvel’s Doctor Strange due to Web’s reported psychic sensory and astral abilities, according to a Deadline report announcing Sydney Sweeney’s casting in the upcoming Madame Web from Sony.

“Insiders say due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony’s version of Doctor Strange.”

It’s Doctor Strange For Everyone!

Notably, the report’s wording does not suggest that this film will have its own Stephen Strange Variant, but rather that Madame Web herself will have powers and a job similar to those of Doctor Strange as seen in the MCU. This means that the heroine’s abilities could more than likely allow her to travel across the Multiverse in some way, though probably not in a physical manner, given her medical condition.

In spite of Deadline’s claims, Dakota Johnson’s previous casting might indicate that audiences are getting a newer, more modern version. Spider-Woman is played by a younger version of Julia Carpenter in the Ultimate Spider-Man television series. In theory, the studio may be looking for an older, sprightlier lead character, but it’s too early to tell.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s upcoming MCU film will be released on May 6 and contains a scene with Dakota Johnson’s first cinematic appearance as Madame Web.
