After Venom and Morbius, Sony’s Marvel Universe is expected to grow even more in the next few years. One of these projects will be based on Madame Web. Directed by S.J. Clarkson, the new movie will feature Dakota Johnson as the main character.

There are still a lot of unknowns about Madame Web’s story, but it has been said that she will be the Sony version of Dr. Strange in Sony’s Marvel world. Because Madame Web is a character in the comics, this shows that there will be a lot of things in this movie that connect to the Multiverse. This interesting tidbit came to light that could help us figure out when the movie comes out. Sony Pictures announced that Madame Web’s social media pages had been made public, which marked the start of the movie’s marketing.

The movie’s Twitter account was shown off by the studio, along with a simple profile description:

“Madame Web is coming to theatres”

In addition to Twitter, Sony Pictures also showed off the film’s Facebook and Instagram pages, which show off a simple picture.

This most recent news about Madame Web could be a sign that the movie’s release date or cast members have been confirmed. However, because the movie’s logo is all that’s on the social media pages, it’s safe to say that it will be a while before anything official comes out.

Also, the timing of the social media pages’ release is interesting, because it is close to when the first reactions to Jared Leto’s Morbius start to come out. The Spider-Man movie spin-off has gotten mostly bad reviews from fans and critics, which could mean that Sony is having internal talks about the future of its shared Marvel universe.

There is a chance that Madame Web is being set up as a possible hero for the series because of its connections to the Multiverse. This is what happened in the first movie. The fact that alternate realities could be a part of the story also makes it possible to see other Spider-Men, like Tom Holland’s web-crawler or Andrew Garfield’s web-slinger. Madam Web seems to be an important piece of the Spider-Verse puzzle.

Who’s Madame Web?

It was in 1981’s Amazing Spider-Man #210 that Madame Web first came to life. First, in that first story, Cassandra Webb, who was the real name of the original Madame Web, was shown as an old woman who used her clairvoyance to help Spider-Man. Cassandra was born blind, but she had mutant powers that made her telepathic, clairvoyant, and precognitive.

She had a long-term neuromuscular disease called myasthenia gravis. Because of this, it was very hard for her to move and breathe on her own. So they hooked her up to a life support system that looked like a huge spider web. He built it with a lot of thought and skill, and it was made by her late husband. This made her look very creepy, almost like a Tarot card. She is on the side of good when she is in her original form and when she is in other forms. Madame Web sounds a little scary, but she isn’t a bad person or a villain.

Which Version Of Madame Web Will Sony Adapt?

If Sony is desperate to get their audience in for their Spiderverse, then playing old ain’t the key. With Julia Carpenter as a young figure of choice, it is definite that Sony is roping in Dakota Johnson to play Julia’s version of Madame Web. Julia’s roots go back to 1984, when the Secret Wars miniseries was a huge hit. A new hero, Spider-Woman, is introduced in this scene.

In Secret Wars, it was learned that a secret government group called The Commission made their own superheroes, which they probably used as soldiers. The people who talked Julia Carpenter into taking part in an athletic study got her to do it. Unaware, they make her do things for them while she doesn’t know. During the meeting, the Commission gave Julia a mix of spider venom and exotic plant extracts. This gave Julia powers that were very similar to those of Spider-Man.

Bringing in Cassandra Webb as Madame Web can cause a downfall in the interest of the character. Firstly, she has no foes. Secondly, she’s suffering healthwise. It’s apparent Sony and Daokta in general wouldn’t want to engage in short terms for such a character. If Sony wants to make a movie about such a character, you should put in a Madame Webb, who will be carrying a team forward.

Big Cast Leads For Madame Web

But that doesn’t mean Sony doesn’t have big plans for her. There are sources who say it’s possible the project could turn into something else. There isn’t a lot of comics history about Cassandra Webb when she was younger, which is a good thing. But most likely, Sony will want to set this movie in the present, with the rest of its Spider-Man Universe.

A Madame Web movie has been in the air for a while now. But the movement has finally begun. According to Deadline, Dakota Johnson has been roped in to play the character. Given Madame Web’s background in comics; the choice is a little surprising, but also very interesting. Recently, Amy Pascal, the producer of Spider-Man; talked about how Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff films like Morbius or Venom or Madame Web fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In her answer, she said that there is a Marvel Universe and then there are the Spider-Verse movies, which are different, and then there is the other universe where Sony characters are. “We all treat each other very well and work together to make sure that we’re only adding.”

The movie, which is part of Sony’s growing Spider-Man Universe, will have S.J. Clarkson direct. Besides Johnson, Variety said in March that Sydney Sweeney had joined Madame Web in an unknown role.
