DAREDEVIL: REBORN is back in the news, with Marvel Studios apparently hiring three real-life lawyers to join its writers’ room. Charlie Cox‘s return to the screen as Matt Murdock is eagerly awaited. Fans are already speculating on what to expect from the upcoming Disney+ original series.
Charlie Cox previously appeared as a cameo in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Following those two famed cameos, it is clear that Marvel Studios has already planned out how they will proceed with Matt Murdock’s journey. While it’s uncertain how Matt Murdock’s past from his Netflix shows will be used in his MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) return, one thing is certain: Matt’s practice as an attorney will be prominently featured.
Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated “Daredevil: Born Again” has recently hired three former lawyers to help the series have a constructive legal arc for Matt. The recruited lawyers include David Feige, a former public defender in New York City who has also worked in the industry on shows like Raising the Bar as well as The Firm. Former attorney Thomas Wong also joins the cast as a writer. Thomas has previously worked on shows including Bull and Michael Weatherly. Finally, Zachary Reiter (the Queens prosecutor) worked with David Feige on The Firm as well as Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Why Does Marvel Need Lawyer Writers For Daredevil?
Charlie Cox starred as a lawyer (Matt Murdock) and a vigilante (Daredevil) in three seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil, which aired on Netflix. Daredevil was canceled after appearing in Marvel’s The Defenders, leaving fans heartbroken. Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home. Matt was featured in the movie giving legal counsel to Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland). He was also seen in the MCU-set Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. For the first time in four years, Cox donned the Daredevil outfit.
With the upcoming Disney+ original Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel hopes to ensure that the legal world in the MCU is as close to reality as possible.
Having such well-known lawyers work as writers to enrich Matt’s legal narrative shows Marvel Studios’ commitment to portraying real-world law in the upcoming series. While fans are excited to see him in his red mask and suit, 18 episodes is a lot of ground to cover for an MCU Disney+ show, which means his day job will have to stand up to his superhero antics in order for the story to progress.
In late 2022, Cox hinted that the upcoming show “Daredevil: Born Again” would probably focus on more courtroom action. Given the recent addition of writers to the series, it’s convenient to say that Cox was onto something.
‘Daredevil: Born’ Again is set to debut on Disney+ in the spring of 2024.
