DC Studios, led by James Gunn, is hard at work bringing creatives on board to make their slate of upcoming projects happen. While James Mangold and Frank Grillo are already confirmed hires for the DC Universe, the studio is still in search of new talent. Unfortunately, their first attempts have not succeeded, with two potential directors already turning down offers from the studio.

Directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou, who run the Australian YouTube channel RackaRacka, revealed in an Instagram live stream that they had turned down an offer to direct a project in the DC Universe. While the meeting with DC Studios went well, the duo decided to stick with their original material for the time being. They did express interest in seeing what James Gunn does with the DC Universe and may consider working with the studio in the future.

The Philippou brothers recently made their theatrical debut as directors with the 2023 Sundance Film Festival hit Talk to Me, produced by A24 Films, and earning a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While they only have one released movie under their belt, they have over a billion views on their YouTube channel.

The future Of DC Universe And potential For The Philippou Bros.

The Philippou Bros.

James Gunn’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate is set to kick off in 2025, and with only two titles currently having directors lined up, there is plenty of time for the Philippou brothers to join the team on the right project. While they are not the only ones to turn down offers from DC Studios, with Ben Affleck reportedly doing the same, there is still hope for the duo to work with James Gunn and his crew.
