DEADPOOL?! Did we just say Deadpool? Well, you guessed that right. The Merc with a mouth would have had his debut pretty much last year in the MCU; in Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi was one of the big MCU blockbusters that rose during the pandemic. It set square for the other studios and the MCU themselves to have faith in the theaters. People feared going to theaters and the popularity and support for Shang-Chi was commendable. It literally blew the expectations of many people associated with Marvel Studios.
Deadpool is one of the most well-known characters associated with Disney’s takeover of Fox. The Merc with a Mouth is right up there with the X-Men Fox characters as one of the most eagerly awaited MCU characters. Ryan Reynolds has been adamant about Deadpool 3 for a long time, and it only feels like a matter of time before he makes his presence felt at Marvel Studios.
But when is it going to happen? The subject of when these Fox characters will ultimately appear has sparked a lot of discussion. According to reports, audiences will receive their first glimpse of the X-Men’s reality in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in May’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse. The multiverse is expanding, and with that these characters that had its debut across the Marvel stories could be brought to the MUC; under the pretext of Multiverse.
Deadpool’s debut in the MCU, isn’t a difficult game to play. Kevin Feige and Ryan Reynolds were said to have been long associated with the character. With this, let’s celebrate Deapool’s glimpse in the MCU with this artwork.
The iconic Wade Wilson would have made his debut in the MCU in 2021. Well, that’s the theory, but artworks can be misleading. Don’t they? Concept artist Andrew Kim has shared images from his work on the MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. They show Deadpool fighting at the Golden Daggers Club fight club in Macau.
A fight between Abomination and Wong looks a lot like the one fans saw. It looks like Wade Wilson is going head-to-head with Proxima Midnight in this new piece of art. No one knows if these two characters were ever going to be in Shang-Chi or if this was just an artist having fun. Proxima Midnight died in Avengers: Infinity War and again in Avengers: Endgame. This is more likely the case, though.
One thing tells us from this concept art. The Merc with a Mouth really had his debut on the line. The sad part is that Deadpool couldn’t bring out his guns, swords and witty talks to the battle line. It would have been fun to see hims slay out a big enemy like Proxima on stage.
But soon, Deadpool will be back on the big screen. For now, fans will have to wait and see. So, even though these concept images are fun to look at, it is still fun to think about “what could have been.” Concept artists often work very early in the process of making a project and use different characters as placeholders. Not at all. The crew didn’t actually shoot anything that had to do with Wade Wilson. These are called concept pieces for a reason, and there is a good reason for that.
As a tone-setter, concept art is more important than anything else. It lets the people who worked on the project down the road look back and see what they were going for in the beginning. Even though it would have been nice to see Ryan Reynolds back wearing the costume, it’s not hard to imagine that many fans would have been disappointed by a brief cameo.
There is still a chance that these two characters will meet up in the MCU at some point. There have been rumors that Deadpool and Shang-Chi will be in Doctor Strange 2. If these rumors are true, it could even happen in the next movie, Doctor Strange 2. In other words, a crossover between Deadpool and Shang-Chi might have to wait until the next big event in the MCU. If Marvel comes up with a clever way to do it, Deadpool 3 or Shang-Chi 2 could have the two of them team up. Fans will have to wait and see if they appear together in the same MCU project in the future.
