Star Wars is a phenomenon of epic proportions. There hasn’t been a franchise till now that has captured the audience’s attention and love for multiple decades. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty much in its infancy when compared. But Star Wars’ potential has been wasted on the big screen with almost no releases in recent memory. However, there’s a reason behind the delay. Scroll below to know it!

Why Is There A Delay In Star Wars Movie Releases?

The last Star Wars movie came out in 2017. It was the last part of the Sequel Trilogy, The Last Jedi. Since then, it has almost been 5 years without a movie set in the galaxy far far away. In an era where franchise and IP are kings, it’s baffling to see Lucasfilm waste the potential of this giant and a beloved universe.

Lucasfilm seems to be following a well-worn pattern right now. The company announces Star Wars projects with well-known creatives, but they never seem to materialize. So fans get excited, and then they get deflated. The biggest examples of this include Patty Jenkins’ (Wonder Woman) Rogue Squadron movie and Kevin Feige’s (MCU) untitled Star Wars movie. The former has been shelved, and we have no updates on the latter.

Now, a recent rumour is doing the rounds that could clarify the cause behind the delays. As per Puck News, indecision at Lucasfilm is affecting the franchise as the bosses are too busy trying to get everything right.

Can Lucasfilm Get Everything Right With Star Wars?

Recently, a Star Wars film helmed by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), was announced. It’s supposed to be a continuation of The Last Jedi, but not a direct one. Lindelof says that there’s potential for Sequel Trilogy characters to appear in the movie. So one has to ask, is this singular project that’s touted to be standalone for now, the only thing on the slate for the big screen?

Sadly, the answer is yes. The way Star Wars is getting handled is a classic case of IP mismanagement but on a level that’s pretty much unprecedented. One truly has to wonder if, in the search for perfection, precious time is getting eroded by Kathleen Kennedy’s poor decision-making.

Thankfully, there’s some hope. Continuing the Star Wars legacies are Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni on the Disney+ screen. And they have achieved success from it.

The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi shows were smashing hits that expanded the galaxy far far away while fleshing out the already present characters. And there’s plenty of excitement for the upcoming Ahsoka show too. So until the big screen gets it right, the small screen is holding on to the franchise and not letting it go to waste.

What do you think about Lucasfilm trying to get it right? Is their approach correct? Or should they hurry up?
