Zachary Levi, the star of the Shazam franchise, recently spoke about now-defunct plans for his DC hero to crossover with Dwayne Johnson‘s Black Adam. Despite the two characters being intertwined in DC Comics for decades, it looks increasingly unlikely that these iterations of the two characters will ever come face-to-face on-screen.

Zachary Levi spoke about what may have been planned for Shazam crossing over with Black Adam, saying that somewhere “down the road,” maybe the two heroes would have clashed, but “nobody ever told [him]”. He has previously expressed his openness to coming to blows with Black Adam on-screen, but acknowledges that this is “so far above [his] pay grade.”

Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg also chimed in on the subject of the two characters crossing over, noting that there “hasn’t really been a conversation about that.”

Why Did Shazam & Black Adam Never Cross Over?

According to one insider, Dwayne Johnson holds some “thinly veiled disdain” for the Shazam films, which may be the reason why the two characters never crossed over on-screen. Instead, Warner Bros. opted to have Black Adam feature a Superman cameo instead of one with the Shazam Family.

With new actors potentially taking on both Shazam and Black Adam in the DCU’s next era, fans are left wondering if there will ever be a chance for these two characters to meet on the big screen. At the moment, no concrete plans for either character within the new DCU have been made public.
