Florence Pugh Speaks Out About Scarlett Johansson’s Departure From The MCU
With Scarlett Johansson‘s departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Florence Pugh, who is set to take on the Black Widow mantle from Johansson, spoke about how she feels about not having her MCU mentor around. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Pugh expressed her excitement about her next MCU appearance in Thunderbolts and potentially leading that team.
Pugh revealed that she is “hugely excited” and “so grateful to be a part of [the Marvel Studios] family,” especially with her return to the franchise. She also expressed her excitement about working with David Harbour again, who plays her character’s father in Black Widow.
When Horowitz brought up doing a movie “unmoored from Scarlett [Johansson’s] character,” Pugh remarked “Aw, don’t. I know. I’m already feeling sad about it.” She also expressed how weird it was to do Black Widow after Johansson’s character was already dead in-universe, so she wouldn’t have the chance to work with her again in the MCU.
With Johansson’s official departure from the MCU, fans will miss her presence in the franchise. But in her stead, Florence Pugh is set to be one of the brightest young stars currently working in Hollywood. Since joining the franchise, Pugh has been nothing but enthusiastic about the MCU, complimenting the “beauty in the massive epic storylines” of these Marvel Studios “mega movies.”
Despite perhaps missing her Black Widow co-star, Pugh seems excited about Thunderbolts and what Marvel Studios has planned for her character going forward. She opined that it is “very interesting” what Marvel Studios has in store for her character, Yelena Belova.
