Fans are elated at the revelation that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader in the Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka. We last saw Hayden as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader at the end of the Prequel Series.
Now, Star Wars didn’t have a great run on the silver screen. From the badly received Prequel Trilogy to the divisive Sequel Trilogy, things just weren’t working out for the franchise on the big screen. So it seems like for a little while, the franchise has taken a break from movies.
However, this doesn’t mean that Star Wars has gone on a hiatus. It’s just that for now, we will get to experience stories set in the galaxy far far away on the Disney+ streaming service.
And thankfully, this move is working out great for the franchise.
The first live-action Star Wars Disney+ show The Mandalorian was a mega-hit. Thanks to its success, there are now a growing number of spin-offs set in the same time period as The Mandalorian.
So even though, it is on the small screen, but the galaxy is certainly starting to expand. One of the most anticipated spin-offs is of Anakin Skywalker’s padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
She first appeared in The Clone Wars animated series and then made her live-action debut in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Now, she is getting her own show, and it’s rumored that it will be set half a decade after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Fans are speculating that she is after Thrawn to find Ezra Bridger. Till a couple of days ago, this was all we knew about the show.
But the announcement of Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader in the show made everyone’s excitement for the show skyrocket.
The most popular theory is that Anakin will show up in flashbacks or perhaps as a Force Ghost. If we are lucky, then we will get to see him in both ways.
Now, this will be a great opportunity for Lucasfilm to resolve a tonne of Star Wars mysteries. And one of them is the Chosen One prophecy.
Many think that Ahsoka’s logo hints at another way Anakin Skywalker might return. Fans think that the logo contains designs and patterns that are very evocative of the World Between Worlds.
First introduced in Star Wars Rebels, this realm is basically another plane of existence where two parts of the Force- the Cosmic Force and the Living Force come together.
Now, the Cosmic Force binds the entire universe together, and the Living Force is associated with life. Fans will remember that Ashoka was saved from death by Ezra Bridger because he used the World Between the Worlds.
So it’s easy to imagine her unknowingly manipulating space and time to see Anakin again. In fact, this is something that Dave Filoni hinted at in an interview with Nerdist when he discussed Ezra’s encounter with the World Between Worlds.
Here’s his quote from the interview:
“You have to be careful when you’re moving through these big powerful dimensions and what you’re wishing for. Everything [Ezra] wishes for, out loud, is a dangerous thing to do. If you watch and listen when Ezra talks and he makes certain statements, there’ll be a thunderclap, and that thunder is representative of something else listening. There’s multiple things going on in there, and everything becomes a choice between how you want to use power and control, and influence others.”
It seems like there are strict limits on a Force-sensitive’s ability to completely manipulate the timeline present in the World Between the Worlds. However, Rebels suggested that any changes made to the timeline have already been written into the flow of time.
This can be seen when Ezra saves Ahsoka from Darth Vader. Now, he did rescue Ashoka, but his personal timeline didn’t get rewritten. So it’s as if the World Between Worlds created a kind of time loop where Ezra was always almost destined to save her.
Thus, even though it’s possible that Ashoka might use the World Between Worlds to meet Anakin Skywalker again, but she can’t alter his fate. Whatever has happened, and this includes his transformation into Darth Vader as well as Vader’s betrayal of Palpatine, all of it has to happen.
None of it can be changed.
Even though there might be restrictions, but this is still a far more unique idea compared to Force Ghosts or flashbacks. After all, Ahsoka can use the realm to talk to her master and heal from the scars that he put on her soul.
But it’s not all puppies and sunshine. Ashoka using the World Between the Worlds might draw others to it, and they might seek to abuse its powers. After all, Emperor Palpatine was certainly fascinated with the unique realm when he accessed it at Lothal by using the Force Vergence.
But it would be terrifying to see what would happen if Star Wars’ greatest villains accessed the World Between the Worlds. Guess, we just have to wait for Ahsoka to come to Disney+ to find out.
