The finale of The Mandalorian season 2 was nothing short of grand. Luke Skywalker’s appearance surprised and exhilarated everyone. Also, it was a fitting culmination of the fact that The Mandalorian season 2 was filled to the brim with references and callbacks to the beloved Skywalker Saga.

The episode, directed by Peyton Reed (Ant-Man) earned a lot of positive fan as well as critic reception. This is because Luke’s appearance was unexpected and that led to overwhelming nostalgic reactions from fans on social media.

Along with this, the finale of season 2 did successfully deliver a hugely emotional moment between Grogu and Pedro Pascal. After all, when Luke Skywalker arrived, then it was abundantly clear that Grogu would need to begin his Jedi training, and that would take him away from Mando.

This realization led to a powerful moment between them. After all, the two of them are the most powerful characters present in the series. So the finale managed to tie up their story interestingly while giving the weightage that their relationship deserved.

But the finale also did another thing, it set up a clean slate for season 3. And in doing so it amped up the audience’s excitement moving forward. After all, it surely will be interesting to see what’s next in store for Grogu as well a Din Djarin.

Now, Disney seems to agree with us that Luke Skywalker’s arrival was one of the best moments of the season 2 finale even though it was originally unplanned. So they have revealed that they will release a special bts episode of the season 2 finale.

Star Wars has officially announced that there’s going to be a special Disney Gallery episode centered on season 2 of The Mandalorian. This special episode will look at the bts of the season 2 finale that featured Mark Hamill’s iconic return as Luke Skywalker.

The official press release from Lucasfilm said that the Disney Gallery episode will focus on the “story of the cutting-edge technology used to bring Luke back.” Along with this, the episode is going to show the:

“Collaborative process, including working with Mark Hamill, to create an authentic and fitting recreation, and explores the immense pressure and responsibility the filmmakers had in bringing back one of the most important characters in film history.”

We will get to see how Hamill was de-aged

Everyone knows by now that Luke Skywalker’s appearance as well as Mark Hamill’s involvement in the process was a closely guarded secret. No one knew about it till the finale. In fact, it was a well-guarded secret that didn’t have even a single leak or rumor.

This was a feat in itself in the era of social media. Mark Hamill also describes the full secrecy with zero leaks as a “real triumph.” He further said that this achievement was “nothing less than a miracle.” So obviously he has a lot to say about pulling off this almost impossible feat. And hopefully, Hamill will reveal them all in the upcoming special episode.

Along with him, the show will have more insights from Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, as well as the cast. So fans will be able to get a complete picture regarding Luke’s return and how the team was able to pull it off. We must also mention that focusing on the technology that was used by the show for bringing Luke back is a really positive step.

Right now, we don’t know if Luke will show up in The Mandalorian season 3 or even other Star Wars projects. But it’s certainly possible that any future appearances will get announced or at least teased in the Disney Gallery episode. So it’s time to cross all our fingers.
