Disney’s live-action remake, Peter Pan & Wendy, has garnered the lowest Rotten Tomatoes audience score ever recorded for a Disney live-action remake. Despite the varied audience reception of recent Disney films, including those from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the animation division, Peter Pan & Wendy has set a new record for negative audience feedback.

Peter Pan & Wendy’s Disappointing Audience Score:

Disney’s Remake Fails To Capture The Magic Of Peter Pan Is Hollywood Out Of Ideas

Released on Disney+ on April 28, Peter Pan & Wendy received a critic score of 64% on the “Tomatometer” on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score plummeted to a disappointing 13%, marking it as one of only two live-action Disney remakes with a score below 45%. The other film with a similarly low audience score is 2022’s Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which received 28%.

Review-Bombing And Criticism:

Peter Pan & Wendy

Peter Pan & Wendy also faced review-bombing on its release day, with some legitimate criticisms directed at certain plot and character choices made in the film. The negative reception further compounds the disappointment among fans.

While Disney has achieved immense success with recent live-action remakes like The Jungle Book, Aladdin, and Cruella, the past couple of years have not been as favorable for the studio in terms of audience reception.

Although it may be coincidental that the last two poorly received movies were released on Disney+, the negative feedback from fans is disheartening, particularly considering Disney’s ongoing commitment to producing more remakes.

Future Prospects And The Little Mermaid:

Disney’s Live-Action Little Mermaid Remake Fails To Live Up To The Animated Classic

Halle Bailey’s upcoming portrayal of The Little Mermaid, set to release in May, has already garnered positive reviews following its world premiere. Despite a few controversies surrounding the film’s visual effects, the early critical reception is encouraging. Additionally, Dwayne Johnson’s announced live-action retelling of Moana and Disney’s plans for a Lilo & Stitch adaptation have also faced fan complaints.

With upcoming projects still in early development and The Little Mermaid receiving favorable reviews, Disney aims to avoid further major disappointments like Peter Pan & Wendy. The studio continues to explore the potential of live-action remakes, despite the recent setback.
