Doctor Strange 2 May Be Setting Up The Worst MCU Death Once Again

There are hints of a character’s MCU death in the Doctor Strange teaser trailer, who has already been killed off in the MCU in a previous film. As the film’s title suggests, Doctor Strange 2 will explore the multiverse, allowing for an infinite number of storylines. However, there’s also the very real possibility that a beloved character in the film will die. This in return would have been a tragic ending for Marvel fans.
With Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as the titular character, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will all reprise their roles in Doctor Strange 2. Elizabeth Olsen, the Scarlet Witch from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Xochitl Gomez, who will play America Chavez for the first time in the MCU, have both joined the cast. The plot of Multiverse of Madness was kept a secret in the first trailer. Despite numerous leaks and rumors about the film’s plot and the plethora of cameos fans anticipate seeing, the trailer only confirmed a few of these claims.
As NWH has confirmed, Wong has been elevated to the position of Sorcerer Supreme. Furthermore, the teaser suggests that he has been killed. The trailer shows Wong in peril, captured by a certain entity with scars on his face, implying that Multiverse of Madness could be the end of Wong’s life. Wong. For Wong’s MCU death in the Multiverse of Madness, there are several possibilities.

Wong Dies Again

Wong
First and foremost, if Wong died, Doctor Strange would regain the title of Sorcerer Supreme, which is a logical progression for Strange’s character. It’s also worth noting that Wong has become a popular character and is Strange’s closest friend, so killing him would add a lot of emotional weight to Doctor Strange 2. Wong’s MCU death, on the other hand, may have been an error. Aside from his appearances in the MCU, Wong has appeared in a number of other films since his debut in 2016. Even more importantly, Wong had already died and returned to life in the MCU once before.
In the MCU since his debut in Doctor Strange in 2016, Wong has steadily increased in importance. Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and No Way Home have both featured Wong since 2016. He’s been a kind of Phil Coulson for the MCU so far, tying movies together with his character’s appearance. By severing the character’s ties to the MCU by eliminating him in Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios would be left scrambling for a replacement to serve as a bridge for new characters like Shang-Chi.
To make matters worse, the MCU death of Wong in Doctor Strange 2 might be viewed as superfluous. In the first Doctor Strange film, Wong was killed by Kaecilius as he tried to open the Dark Dimension, but he reappeared in the second. Only Strange’s use of the time stone allowed Wong to survive. The same thing happened to Loki. Loki’s death was no longer a shock to the audience because he had been killed so frequently. If the studio wants to make a statement with the character of Wong by having him die again in a direct sequel to Doctor Strange, they might as well not kill him off at all.
It’s impossible to tell which characters will live and which will die in Multiverse of Madness because the film is still a mystery. The trailer hinted at Wong’s MCU death, but that does not immediately imply he will die in the movie. Trailers and other promotional footage are common tactics employed by Marvel Studios to mislead viewers and obscure the true story of their films. In order to keep any multiverse shenanigans that take place in the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a mystery until May 2022, they could easily be doing the same thing.
