How will the Doctor Strange post-credits cliffhanger be resolved by the sequel? As Phase 4 of the MCU expands into 2022, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange is one of the most key characters. Before this year’s solo sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the hero appeared in four other live-action films as a supporting cast member.
Cumberbatch’s hero was joined by Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer and Benedict Wong’s Wong in the original solo film, both of whom are returning this time. Wong was even elevated to the rank of Sorcerer Supreme. Despite the fact that we’ve only seen the Master Mordo Variant, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo is also along for the ride.
Even though Mordo’s Variant will appear in Doctor Strange 2, the MCU’s Mordo will remain a threat after the events of Doctor Strange 1. A major unresolved storyline from that film’s post-credits scene could have massive repercussions if revisited.
When Karl Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, appears in Doctor Strange’s second post-credits scene, he finds Benjamin Bratt’s Jonathan Pangborn and takes his power. Pangborn asked Mordo why he was doing this, and he replied that there were already “too many sorcerers” in the world.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has yet to show the original Mordo to fans in any of its promotional materials. Only a few seconds of screen time have been given to Ejiofor’s Master Mordo, obscuring the original Mordo’s location and purpose in the first place.
Mordo made it clear that he was leaving the Kamar-Taj sorcerers in favour of his own morally questionable mission to eliminate magic-wielders around the world after leaving Doctor Strange and Wong in Hong Kong. It’s hard to say where this Doctor Strange cliffhanger moment will go since the post-credits scene at the end of last year.
More than one Mordo could have an impact on the plot of Doctor Strange 2, given the number of Doctor Strange, Wong, Wanda Maximoff, and possibly other characters who have been confirmed for the sequel. As a result, if the original Mordo and his Variant appear at some point in the story, the MCU’s sorcerers will need to be on high alert. Who is the main villain in Doctor Strange 2? This question ties back to the mystery of Mordo.
Because fans have already seen Strange battle his roguish Variant in the Illuminati’s headquarters, there is a good chance that Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, will be the film’s primary antagonist. Also, with Mordo taking out MCU’s masters of magic to prevent the Multiverse from unravelling, it’s possible that he’ll be the catalyst for Strange to discover what’s really going on.
When it comes to Mordo, Marvel will keep the details of the character’s origins a secret until a few weeks before the film’s release. Everyone involved in this new story should be extremely concerned about the possibility that this formidable foe is out there somewhere annihilating sorcerers.
