Dwayne Johnson, the star of Black Adam, reportedly had a say in removing two major DC Universe characters from Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ post-credits scene. This news surfaced on social media after the movie’s release, causing controversy among fans.

The Original Plan

Justice Society Of America

Initially, the post-credits scene was supposed to feature Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman and Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone inviting Billy Batson/Shazam to join the Justice Society of America. However, according to Zachary Levi, who plays Shazam, this plan was changed due to Dwayne Johnson’s objections.

It is no secret that Johnson has never been open to sharing the spotlight with Shazam, as seen by his request for changes in the first Shazam! movie’s script. He also reportedly refused a cameo role as Black Adam in Shazam 2 and expressed a thinly veiled dislike for Zachary Levi’s leading hero.

Levi’s Take On The Situation

Levi, however, was open to the two characters meeting on-screen, and he wasn’t trying to lay blame on anyone for what happened. Instead, he wanted to make sure that the truth about the situation was known.

While seeing Hawkman and Cyclone introduce themselves to Shazam would have been an exciting post-credits moment, Johnson’s insistence that the two franchises remain separate seemed to be its undoing. This has turned into a public relations disaster for Warner Bros. as they run the former DC Extended Universe. With so much up in the air for the greater DCU, nothing can be set in stone yet. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
