The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always kept fans on the edge of their seats by releasing a series of blockbuster movies. The year 2022 looks only brighter for Marvel Studios. But until then, let’s talk about the studio’s 26th movie, Eternals. After its fairly successful run in theaters, Eternals has made its way to online fans throughout the world by appearing on Disney+.

Director Chloé Zhao’s MCU debut comes as a fascinating intergalactic tale. The movie has already won, exceeding viewership numbers on streaming platforms. With Eternals available to watch any time in the comfort of their homes, fans continue to break down the movie’s premises to understand the MCU’s current place as well as predict its future.

It is true that, considering the line of exceptionally acclaimed MCU movies, Eternals received a mixed response from viewers. However, the film still brought in a plethora of intrigue and magnificence into the fold. Mainly because of the revelations made in its post-credits scene. The first one served as a debut for Harry Styles’ Starfox. The character only honors the remarkable legacy of Mad Titan Thanos. Whereas the second shed light on Kit Harington’s upcoming role as Dane Whitman through his mysterious encounter with the Ebony Blade.

Kit Harrington’s debut into the MCU allowed him a brief time on screen. But through the post-credits scene, the character manages to build excitement about the future. Eternals marks the start of his riveting MCU journey as he soon picks up the mantle of the Black Knight. To support the theory, we have an excerpt from the recently released commentary on Eternals. In conversation are Chloe Zhao and a couple of her coworkers as they talk about how things might work for Harrington’s Whitman in the franchise’s future.

The recently released Eternals Audio Commentary reveals director Chloe Zhao talking about star Kit Harington as his character Dane Whitman prepares for his next appearance following the intriguing second post-credits scene of the movie.

Director Zhao is in conversation with production visual effects supervisor Stephane Ceretti and additional visual effects supervisor Martin Larsson. Zhao expresses her enthusiasm for seeing Whitman interact with the Ebony Blade. More so because Mahershala Ali’s MCU introduction as Blade only builds up the suspense surrounding the ancient cursed artifact. Zhao particularly teased how the scene “sets up so much” for the MCU’s future.

In addition to this, the three also acknowledged the feature of the Ebony Blade itself. They discussed the necessity of portraying “the idea of a blood curse” as closely linked to the frightening sword-like weapon.

Added below is the trio’s full exchange:

Chloé Zhao: “Ebony Blade, who would have thought. I definitely geek out quite a bit, especially when the voice that comes in the end.”

Mårten Larsson: “It’s just a cool post-credits scene. Simple, but sets up so much.”

Chloé Zhao: “Sets up so much… And, I love this effect they use on the sword so much. Did we use… Was it sand magnets?

Stephane Ceretti: “It was magnetic ferrite… I think it’s cool.”

Chloé Zhao: “Yeah, the idea of a blood curse, how to show that.”

Kit Harington showed up merely for ten minutes out of the 2-hour-36-minute runtime from Eternals. Meanwhile, the story had a dozen other stars sharing the space. But Harrington is widely appreciated for his role in Game of Thrones and other famous projects. So this momentary introduction serves as a starting point for the actor. He only has more promising things coming his way as he walks down the path of sporting the heroic suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The second post-credits scene in Eternals shows Harington’s Dane Whitman pondering over the box containing the Ebony Blade. The Ebony Blade is a powerful weapon forged by Merlin. The sword is charged with incredible magical powers like near-immortality and the ability to effortlessly slice through any object in its way. These magical powers of the magnetic ferrite are faintly visible through the VFX on the big screen. To add weight to the scene’s intensity, there was Blade, as he warned Whitman about the potential threats that would come with the weapon.

Harrington’s incorporation into the MCU as the Black Knight seems like a huge possibility, now more than ever. While the current narrative leaves no clue of the actor’s reappearance, it is bound to happen sooner or later.

For now, Blade will begin production sometime in July. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has other cosmic-influenced projects such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Moon Knight coming to big and small screens soon. Either of these could pave the way for Harrington’s superhero to come to fruition. Whenever that happens, MCU fans will have another interesting character to get acquainted with as the franchise continues to add more fascinating elements into the mix.

Eternals is now available to stream worldwide, only on Disney+.
