Eternals fan-beloved star Lia McHugh recently made an interesting comment regarding her knowledge of Marvel Studios’ latest release, Spider-Man: No Way Home. McHugh was aware of the film’s secret plans of including the legacy cast almost five months before the movie was released. Chloé Zhao’s Eternals made it to theaters last November. The movie allowed the MCU to portray diversity by introducing a masterful ensemble of superheroes. The immortal Eternals have resided on Earth for hundreds of years. And after the advent of evil beings called the Deviants, the team emerges from their individual lives to reunite and fight for the good. The film sees Lia McHugh as Sprite, who is the youngest of all the Eternals.

It is true that Eternals received some very disappointing reviews from critics and audiences. But the December release with Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to cover the tracks by proving to be exceptionally amazing. The film pleased both viewers and critics alike. No Way Home ranks highest among all previous MCU movies at a whopping 98% Rotten Tomatoes audience score. Throughout the film’s marketing, there were teases of appearances from various fan-favorite villains. And for months, fans assumed regarding the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men. And to fulfill the dreams of Marvel fans, both Maguire and Garfield did appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The pair acted as a significant addition to the film’s thrilling climactic battle sequence.

Recently, Eternals star Lia McHugh sat down for an exclusive interview with Screen Rant. In a conversation, McHugh disclosed the fact that she already knew about Maguire and Garfield’s returns five months ahead of time. During the official premiere of Black Widow in June, McHugh approached a Marvel producer and asked them if the two legacy Spider-Man actors would return to reprise their roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home. As the star was obligated to secrecy under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), the producer confirmed her hopes about the same. Here is McHugh’s full comment from the interview when asked about whether she saw Spider-Man: No Way Home:

Exclusive:”Of course, I did. Yes. And I knew the big secret. I went to the Black Widow premiere. I asked one of the big producers because I’m under NDA and everything. And I was like, ‘Are all three of them in it?’. And he just like, ‘(whispers) yeah.’ But I didn’t tell anyone. I did not. I kept my lips sealed. But I was very excited for the movie. I was looking forward to it.”

It is true that the internet was cramped with rumors and speculation regarding Maguire and Garfield making their presence felt in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Marvel excellently maneuvered them all to its advantage by never making any official announcements. It appears as if the non-disclosure agreements that Marvel actors have a massive hold on the overall scenario. It is important for stars to keep their lips sealed as MCU films have a tradition of giving big surprises to its fans. Obviously, McHugh kept her part of the deal secret and never disclosed the information she knew.

Moreover, fan theories limited both Maguire’s and Garfield’s roles to mere cameos. But Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed them to be an important part throughout the final act of the movie. Not only did they heavily assist Peter in the climactic battle sequence, but they also mentored Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. With the duo’s long years and experiences as their respective web-slingers, they helped Holland’s Parker fulfill his MCU journey. With that said, it would have allowed McHugh to enjoy Spider-Man: No Way Home more if she wasn’t already aware of Maguire and Garfield’s roles. But it is very natural for the star to use her Eternals card to learn interesting details for the movie beforehand.
