Sony Pictures is looking to expand its Marvel-based movie collection, starting with Jared Leto’s Morbius in the near future. Madame Web is one of the players in this mix, and there are still many mysteries to be solved. This new film, directed by S.J. Clarkson and starring Dakota Johnson as the lead, will introduce yet another major player which has never been seen before.

Sony is assembling a large cast of Spider-Man’s heroes and anti-heroes. Nonetheless, Madame Web has been in development for more than two years. Her younger age, combined with her abilities as a superhero, means that Johnson’s portrayal of the character will be quite different from that of her comic book counterpart.

Filming is expected to begin this year, but only Johnson is currently confirmed as a cast member. After an exciting series of television stories, a new member of the cast has been added to the group.

New Spider-Man cast member Sydney Sweeney will join Sony Pictures’ Madame Web, according to Deadline, and will be a part of the Spider-Man Universe. For the time being, little is known about Sweeney’s role in the film, which will star her co-star Dakota Johnson.

Although no specifics have been provided, it’s been hinted that the Madame Web project could evolve into something bigger in the future.

Will Sweeney play Sony’s Madame Web in the future?

Sydney Sweeney is really no stranger to starring roles in critically acclaimed films, most recently as Zendaya in HBO’s Euphoria. Now that Sony has brought her into the fold of Madame Webb, she’ll have the chance to join her own Spider-centric story.

Fans have used Sweeney in fan-casts for a few classic Spider-Man characters, even though her role in Madame Web is still unknown. Gwen Stacy is one of them, and Emma Stone brought her to life in Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man films as the character.

In spite of the rumors that she would reprise her role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sweeney has the potential to become the new version of the character in Sony’s more interrelated universe.

Spider-longtime Man’s love interest Felicia Hardy (better known as the Black Cat) is also a factor here. Sony has yet to cast a live-action movie version of Black Cat, but if they do, Sweeney already has the look to play the skilled fighter.

Irrespective of Sweeney’s role in Madame Web, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe appears to be taking notice of this new film. Dakota Johnson’s role in the larger Marvel universe will be interesting to watch as more details about the film’s production and expected release date emerge.
