Something stood out to us while watching the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. We noticed that the Tusken Raiders on the show looked different. They certainly didn’t look like the versions Star Wars fans are used to.

The Tusken Raiders looked more unique than the previous Sand People seen in a galaxy far, far away. They were in the premiere episode of the show to depict how crucial they were for Boba’s survival after he was almost eaten by the Sarlacc Pit.

But why do they look so different?

However, it’s possible that the reason this tribe looks so different is simply due to geography and culture. In previous Star Wars movies and shows, most of the Tusken Raiders were seen around Mos Eisley’s spaceport and the Lars Homestead, the childhood home of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

So, almost every Tusken Raider we have seen before the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett is from a different tribe. This tribe is probably based in that part of Tatooine that’s known as the Jundland Wastes.

But Jabba the Hutt’s palace,, and the Sarlacc,, called the Great Pit of Carkoon are situated in the further northern parts of the desert planet. When Boba Fett carved his way out of the Sarlacc pit, he was still near death.

After Jawas stole Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor, the Sand people followed and took him captive. However, even though these Tusken Raiders had the same mouth grills, eye covers, and head wrappings, their garments were more decorative and darker than the beige clothes generally worn by the Sand People.

This is most probably because these Raiders are from a different clan. They are from the Dune Sea. It explains their different type of culture and dress compared to the Tuskens of the Jundland Wastes.

Just in the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett, we got to know more about the culture of the Sand People than ever before. We saw the tribe’s chief and also took a look at one of their offspring who was in charge of looking after Boba and his Rodian prisoner.

Fett was tasked with the job of looking for black melons in the dunes, which are the primary source of water for se Sand People, along with raiding the moisture farms.

So, these new kinds of Tusken Raiders taking Fett hostage proved crucial to his survival after the Sarlacc encounter. Overall, it needs to be kept in mind that their different looks can be attributed to them living in a separate region of the planet.

This would make them a wholly different clan with their own sub-culture. It was interesting to see their contribution to Boba’s survival. But it will be more interesting to see if he becomes further integrated with the tribe. After all, in episode 1 itself, he saved one of their children.
