Marvel has already announced a whole string of movies for phase 5 and phase 6. One of those movies is Avengers: Secret Wars. It will be the final movie of Phase 6 and will end The Multiverse Saga. The film is set to be released on November 7, 2025. All of this was announced by none other than the President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige during the San Diego Comic-Con of 2022. In the comics, the Secret Wars event takes place on an alternate planet called Battleworld. So let us explore Battleworld and what exactly is special about it.

Exploring the planet, Battleworld 

Battleworld is a planet that was created for the Secret Wars event. The creation was an extremely interesting concept as Doctor Doom took patches of different worlds and realities that had been destroyed after the Multiverse collapsed due to the incursions and put them all together to create a new planet. It was basically like a collage. For fans who do not know what incursions are, keep reading we’ll be covering that too!

This was also the time when the Beyonders lost their powers. Molecule Man managed to transfer the Beyonders’ powers to Doctor Doom. This is when he became God Emperor. Battleworld even became known as Doomworld. He ruled the planet for almost 8 years. However, this came to an end when Molecule Man gave Beyonders’ powers to Reed Richards and the planet was destroyed. The planet as expected was plunged into darkness and battles broke out between the remaining realities. Eventually, Doom managed to get things under control and separate the factions into different domains so as to try and keep the peace. Doctor Doom then became judge, jury and executioner all while Doctor Strange helped him out as the sheriff.

Interestingly enough, this is also where Knowhere was created. The planet acted as Battleworld’s moon. Apparently, a celestial came to conquer Battlworld and Doom killed it, leaving the floating head to set an example for any further enemies. Eventually Reed Richards along with his son Franklin managed to restore the Multiverse once Doctor Doom began to falter.

What are incursions?

If you’ve watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness then you’ve heard this word before. It’s basically when universes collide with each other and get destroyed. Stephen Strange of Earth 838 had caused an incursion which destroyed another universe. Similarly Sinister Strange too had caused an incursion that ruined his planet and reduced it nothing. During the credits scene as well, we see Clea tell Doctor Strange of Earth 616 that he had caused an incursion and needed to fix it.

How did they destroy the Multiverse?

Coincidentally, doctor strange is also an integral part of the incursion that led to the destruction of the multiverse and the creation of Battleworld. This incursion was caused by a contraction of the Multiverse’s timeline. The Beyonders had created a bomb within Molecule Man which was supposed to set off at a particular time and destroy the multiverse. However, this event happened much earlier than it was supposed to. Molecule Man of Earth 616 had travelled in time with Doctor Doom to set off the bomb and simultaneously strip the Beyonders of their powers. And that’s how the destruction of the multiverse began.

Each and every Universe was destroyed with their respective Earths being the central point. The last incursion was involving Earth 616. Doctor Strange, Molecule Man and Doctor Doom killed the Beyonders but they could not stop the incursion. Instead they created Battleworld with all that remained of the Multiverse.

Secret Wars on Battleworld

This event took place on Battleworld and saw Marvel’s mightiest heroes and villains battle each other. As the various patches of Battleworld split off into factions, the divide became deeper. This is when the Secret Wars waged between these remaining domains. This event involved characters such as Magneto, Kang, Thanos, Fantastic Four, Avengers and even the X-Men. It was one of the largest and longest crossover events in Marvel comics, spanning several issues and including two more series as introduction to Secret Wars. Basically, Avengers: Secret Wars will be of epic proportions and we cannot wait for it to come!
