Lucasfilm has recently announced three new Star Wars movies, but one project was missing from the list: Taika Waititi’s long-awaited Star Wars film. Fortunately, Deadline has reported that the project is still in development and is set to start filming in 2024.

It remains unknown what Waititi’s movie will look like, but it’s safe to assume that it will be separate from the many Skywalker plotlines. The director and writer likely want as much creative freedom as possible in developing the story. It is hoped that Waititi will keep his comedic tendencies to a reasonable level, as many fans took issue with his approach to Thor: Love and Thunder.

If production begins in 2024, fans can expect a late 2025 or early 2026 release date. It’s strange that Waititi’s movie wasn’t formally announced at Star Wars Celebration, considering that James Mangold’s film about the first Jedi won’t be released anytime soon.
