A new trailer for “The Mandalorian” season 3 has been released and we are here to talk about the 8 things that jumped out at us from the new trailer. The new trailer features Grogu, our beloved Mando, and more characters. Some new and some old. So let us get to decoding it:

1. The Various Mandalorians Unite

Bo-Katan and the Nite Owls

In the opening shot of the trailer we see a team of 7 Mandalorians walking across a desert. We can see that Bo-Katan Kryze is leading them and Din Djarin is right beside her. In the next shot we see Din Djarin walking past a variety of Mandalorians who are wearing different colored armors.

There are at least two Mandos who have white helmets and look like they are from the Nite Owls. Another one wears a red and white armor while another wears a teal and black one with the insignia of perhaps a Loth Wolf on it. So it looks like they all belong from belong from different clans.

The armorer believed that Bo-Katan didn’t fairly win the Dark Saber and that’s why doom befell Mandalore. However, since Din has rightfully won the saber so he can reunite the various clans as one. After all, even the narration that Din gives in the trailer about his people being scattered like stars in the galaxy and then questioning their place and purpose does give the sense that he is trying to unite all.

2.  R5-D4

When Mando and Grogu are strolling on the streets of the now remarkably developed Nevarro (there are now polished and white vertical structures there and the place doesn’t look like it’s in ruins) we see a R5-D4 behind them. It’s the astromech that we first saw in “A New Hope.”

Luke Skywalker gets it first before eventually getting R2-D2 because the astromech’s motivator gets destroyed. In a Star Wars comic it’s mentioned that R5-D4 purposefully damaged its motivator to ensure that Luke chose R2-D2 and the important message of Leia could be passed on. However, that’s now a non-canon story that’s relegated to Legends.

But we last saw this R5-D4 with Peli Motto at the Mos Eisley hangar where he helped Mando by projecting Tatooine’s map. And now he is here.

3. IG-11 Statue

When magistrate Greef Karga and Mando shake hands we see the statue of IG-11. One leg of the statue has been propped up on the helmet of a stromtrooper. It has been there since he sacrificed himself to save Din Djarin and Grogu in season 1. But later on in the trailer we see that the statue has been destroyed in a skirmish.

4. A Helmet For Grogu?

In the trailer we see the armorer scoop out a ladle of metal to perhaps make a small helmet for Grogu. After all, Baby Yoda already has the chain mail. So having a helmet will complete his Mandalorian look.

5. The Green Fields Of Mandalore

Right after Din Djarin says that he is going to Mandalore, we see a shot of a ruined city. It looks like the domed city of Sundari that was bombed in the story the armorer told us back in “The Book of Boba Fett.”

However just outside the blackened city, it seems like there are green fields. Maybe the place is green because it has been fed by the living waters of Mandalore. So it could be proof of the existence of these springs.

6. Dr. Pershing In Coruscant

We see Dr. Pershing in Coruscant and it needs to be noted that this is the first time we are seeing Coruscant in this era of Star Wars. Dr. Pershing, as viewers will remember, was involved in some kind of cloning process and wanted to get Grogu for that. What he will do in this season remains to be seen.

7. Anakin Skywalker And Order 66

We see 4 Jedis get ready to defend Grogu as another cuts through the door to reach them. These Jedis are not known to us till now, but its’ quite possible that the person cutting the door is Anakin Skywalker. However, there’s also a nagging question- if Anakin had indeed got in, then Grogu wouldn’t have been alive.

He was too efficient and wouldn’t have missed the little creature. This is why we think that the person on the other side was his rescuer. But who was Grogu’s rescuer on the night of Order 66? Many fans hope that it’s Mace Windu while others think that it might be Quinlan Vos. After all, he survived Order 66 and joined the Jedi refugees.

8. Death Watch vs Din’s Team

The trailer pretty much tells us that there will be a battle between the Death Watch and the team that Din Djarin gathers (along with the Nite Owls). Who will win? We don’t know but it’s clear that Nevarro is going to be in shambles again.

It’s interesting that the trailer didn’t feature any conflict between Mando and Bo-Katan directly, like it was hinted in the last trailer. In one interview, the director of season 3 implied that this season will be a sort of closure arc for Din Djarin. We can’t wait to see how that plays out.

Stay tuned for more updates.
