Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and the Lizard got their best looks in the new NWH trailer for Tom Holland’s third solo outing. The antagonists’ motivations were also revealed in great detail in the new footage. Holland’s Peter Parker appears hopelessly outmatched in his next matchup with a rogues’ gallery that includes at least five other supervillains. He’ll be on his own unless he’s assisted.

Tobey and Andrew Are Left Out

There has been a lot of speculation about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Rumors have been flying for over a year that Spider-Man’s first two generations will appear in the latest MCU flick. Despite the actors’ denials, fans expect to see Maguire and Garfield on the big screen in December.

Even though neither actor was shown in the most recent NWH trailer, rumors have already begun to circulate that some special editing by Marvel may be at work there. Next summer’s Secret Invasion has the tagline “Don’t trust anyone,” and that could just as easily serve as a response to anything the Marvel Studios marketing department has to say.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s latest trailer features Tom Holland leaping toward a trio of enemies while the title card plays. This may appear to be the latest in a long line of Marvel trailer trickery in which Tom Holland’s Peter Parker bites off more than he can chew.

While there is nothing behind him, Rhys Ifans’ Lizard makes a suspiciously abrupt turn. People already speculated that either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man had been omitted from a particular NWH trailer shot.

The Trickery in Marvel’s Trailers: A Brief History

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios goes to great lengths to protect the secrets of their films, including intentionally editing significant aspects of particular scenes for future films. An image prominently featured in all marketing for Thor: Ragnarok depicted Chris Hemsworth as God of Thunder charging up with lightning and his eyes turning white.

That particular shot only had one electrified eye when November 2017 rolled around, as the other had been scratched out. Similarly, the official trailers for Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War both ended with shots concealing characters and objects from what would be shown on screen.

There have been a lot of theories about Tobey and Andrew “confirmed!” but this is the first time it has been proven. In the MCU’s marketing, Kevin Feige and the company’s trailer trickery has been a constant. With a film like Spider-Man: No Way Home, they’ll likely be up to their old tricks once again.

The Spider-Men Come Together?

No one from his world appears in the trailer, so we can safely assume that Tom Holland will not be fighting alone against all three of them. In this scene, No Way Home sets the stage for an all-time showdown between Tobey and Andrew. Three generations of Spider-Men would face three of their most formidable adversaries in this battle.

In The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire faced off against the Lizard and Electro, respectively. When Spider-Man: No Way Home opens on December 17th, audiences will find out if this scene brings the much-anticipated trio together.
