Several Game of Thrones characters can be compared to some of House of the Dragon’s prominent characters. Fans have many times compared Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones to Alicent Hightower, although the circumstances are quite different, so a comparison is limited. But what other characters from House of the Dragon compare to GoT’s fan favourites?

Based on many factors such as the psychology of the characters, character description as per George R. R. martin’s, how the characters behaved in varied situations and much more, this list of character comparisons has been created. Read ahead to learn more in-depth about how HoTD showrunners use the same character parallels between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

Let’s Get The ‘Alicent The New Cersei’ Angle Aside

Alicent and Cersei
Alicent and Cersei

Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones and HoTD’s Alicent Hightower have many things in common, such as their impeccable love for their children, their strong emotional allegiance to their house and their family, and the fact that they are both just as close to the iron throne. And as Alicent said herself, but in relation to Rhaenyra instead of Cersei, in our context, both Alicent and Cersei are mothers and have “more in common than (they) allow.”

The primary difference between Cersei and Alicent is that the former is evil by heart and the latter is innocent; just a product of the circumstances and her father’s wishes.

Daemon Targaryen Is The Silver-Haired Jaime Lannister

Remember what Jaime Lannister did when he found out that Caitlyn Stark had captured his brother Tyrion? He assaulted Ned Stark and his men, crippled Lord Stark with a spear and killed or captured all his men. So, Jaime was a character who’d go to violent lengths for the sake of the protection of his family. Daemon chopping Vaemond Velaryon’s head off is a good example of going to violent lengths to protect the sanctity of one’s blood.

Another thing to notice is that both Jaime and Daemon are involved in incestual relationships. Rhaenyra being married off to Jason Lannister is a subtler indication of the Lannister-Targaryen similarities shown from Game of Thrones to House of the Dragon.

Game of Thrones’ Littlefinger + Varys = Larys

Game of Thrones' Larys = Littlefinger + Varys
Game of Thrones’ Larys = Littlefinger + Varys

Lord Larys has the characteristics of two Game of Thrones characters; Petyr Baelish and Varys. He even plays a similar part in the Red Keep as both of them, that is providing valuable information. Although his role in House of the Drago is extended to taking part in active infiltrations and violence like burning down Mysaria’s house. The most striking thing is the name ‘Larys,’ as if it was taken directly from the Game of Thrones Characters.

Criston Cole Is As Devoted As Jon Snow From Game of Thrones

Jon Snow from Game of Thrones is similar to Ser Criston Cole from House of the Dragon
Jon Snow from Game of Thrones is similar to Ser Criston Cole from House of the Dragon

Ser Criston Cole is an honourable man and so is Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, mostly because he believed that he was Ned Stark’s son. Both characters have had their fair share of women’s issues.

We have seen in Game of Thrones how devoted Jon Snow was to the Night’s Watch and how seriously he took his position. Similarly, when loyal to Rhaenyra, Criston Cole also…performed his duties very well (pun intended). Now that he’s under Alicent, he’s performing his duties (only as a knight this time) very well also.
