Stormtroopers and Star Wars go hand in hand. For as long as Star Wars has existed we have seen the bulky helmet and white armor wearing foot soldiers. They have been the forever- disposable cavalry.

These fighters tend to get taken out with one blaster shot even though they have, what looks like, heavy vests. This has made fans wonder if the armors are useful at all. So let us settle this debate once and for all by counting the pros and cons of the Stormtrooper armor.

Why The Stormtrooper Armor Is Great

1) It’s Great For General Intimidation

As we saw in Andor, general people don’t carry blasters with them. So the Stormtrooper armor makes a lot of sense in settings where they need to just intimidate people rather than engage in active shooting situations.

2) The Stormtrooper Look Is An Imposing Uniform

The bulky closed helmet and full body armor makes the Stormtroopers seem intimidating to the average person. As such, without even lifting their blasters they can get their job done with just fear.

3) Protects Them From Getting Killed

We have seen Stormtroopers get taken out too easily during blaster or lightsaber fights. But the general belief in the Star Wars fandom is that it protects the wearer from getting outright murdered. And it’s thanks to this that they probably only get unconscious or stunned from the attacks.

4) The Stormtrooper Armor Provides Protection Against Civilian Grade Weapons

Star Wars fans think that the Stormtrooper armor or vest is effective against low grade tech or civilian level blasters. Also, the bulky plates surely protect the troops from shrapnel during battle.

5) The Helmet Protects Their Heads Effectively

Even though we have seen the helmets not really protect the wearer in intense fights, but it probably deflects or bounces off anything that’s not a perfect shot. Thus, protecting the troops from certain death.

Why The Stormtrooper Armor Doesn’t Make Sense

1) We Don’t Know How The Stormtrooper Vests Work

It has never been explained in any Star Wars live-action and animated project, how does the Stormtrooper armor actually work. All we know is that it is probably made of Chromium that blocks certain radiations.

As per Ultimate Star Wars, the armor can block projectile weapons as well as a large percentile of melee attacks. It also disperses heat from blaster bolts. But none of it is ever shown on-screen.

2) The Blaster Bolts Go Through The Armor

Even though, the Ultimate Star Wars guide says that the protective chest plate can disperse heat from the bolts, but that’s not really true. We have seen burn marks that depict the way the blaster bolt went through the armor. So it’s not that durable.

3) It Breaks From Even Arrows Or Rocks

There are times when the armor has been broken by just arrows or rocks. So this shows that it doesn’t have any ballistic protection. Thus, reiterating the above point that it isn’t always dependable.

4) No Stormtrooper Has Woken Up After An Attack To It

We have never seen a trooper get up after suffering a blaster attack. They just lay unconscious. So it can be concluded that it isn’t that effective if the wearer is easily taken out with sometimes, just one attack.

5) George Lucas Didn’t Plan Stormtroopers Through

The actual explanation behind the ever-shifting durability and reliability of the Stormtrooper armor is that the creator, George Lucas, didn’t iron out the finer details of it. As such, other creators came in and depicted the armor with the levels of protection or prowess their plot required.

This has made the trooper armor sometimes as brittle as ceramic and sometimes durable enough to take blaster bolts and not shatter.
