A few weeks ago, at Comic-Con, Marvel revealed three key projects from Phase 6 and the whole of MCU Phase 5. However, the much-anticipated announcement of The Mutants film that would finally introduce Marvel’s X-Men to the MCU has yet to materialize.

And it may be a while before the mutants officially become part of the Avengers, according to speculations. In any case, several actors are already enthusiastic about the possibility, with Giancarlo Esposito recently confirming that he wants to portray the famous Professor X in the X-Men films.

The actor spoke about his meetings with Marvel at Celebrity Fan Fest in Texas over the weekend. For this reason, Esposito has spoken about the speculation around the Marvel Cinematic Universe role he may play.

In 2019, when Disney completed its purchase of Fox, Marvel once again had access to its mutant cast. Deadpool and the X-Men were now technically free for the MCU. As a result of Disney’s purchase of Fox, a new Fantastic Four film will shortly be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave Marvel much more time to reassess their mutant approach, but the company moved slowly in introducing X-Men initiatives.

Professor X Has Been Found

With no established Professor X in the MCU, any actor may theoretically take on the role. Giancarlo Esposito, known for his roles in Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian, reportedly has met with the producers of the blockbuster series. A recent video from the actor’s TikTok account, @countdowncitygeeks, stated that he has been in negotiations with Marvel and would want to portray Professor X.

Here’s what the actor said:

“So, I have not worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing.”

He further added:

“So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.

Two more Avengers films were revealed as part of the studio’s three-year slate. In 2025, audiences may see both Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in cinemas. You may think this is a long way off, but Marvel movies often provide sneak peeks at what’s to come after the credits roll. There are signs, though, that they may be taking a new approach this time.
