It’s safe to say that The Mandalorian was a roaring success for Disney+ and the Star Wars franchise after the mixed reception of the Sequel Trilogy. The show introduced us to a tonne of great new characters. One of them was Gina Carano’s Cara Dune.

But the actress was fired after season 2 of The Mandalorian finished airing. Gina Carano was let go due to questionable and inflammatory behavior on social media. This decision sparked debates on social media platforms. Some agreed with this, and some didn’t.

But the firing happened and despite repeated petitions, Disney still hasn’t walked back on that decision. Back then, Lucasfilm didn’t have any plans to recast the character. But obviously, this didn’t stop fans from trying to think of the best replacement.

Many thought that Lucy Lawless was going to be perfect for the role. Now, we know that many fans would welcome this casting. But what does the actress herself think about joining the Star Wars universe after the controversial history behind Cara Dune?

In an interview with Metro, Lucy Lawless talked about the fan casting of her as Cara Dune. She also answered if she would play the character if given the opportunity after the controversial firing of its previous actress.

Lucy said something surprising in the beginning. She said that she was actually in discussions for something Star Wars related. Here’s her quote:

“Well, to be honest with you, I was already in discussions about something on- it wasn’t The Mandalorian- something Star Wars-affiliated.”

However, this story doesn’t have a happy ending. The actor said that those fan castings might have hurt her chances to book the role in some way. She said:

“It might have hurt me in some way because then they couldn’t hire me because it would seem to be pandering to… I’m just guessing here, I don’t know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?”

In the end, she said that: “[she] became political and [she] had nothing to do with the discussion.”

These explanations sound very realistic, and it will truly be a shame if those fan castings somehow made her lose out on another project. Rumors have been swirling recently regarding Lucasfilm’s stance on recasting Cara Dune.

The company reportedly doesn’t want to recast the character again, and as such, it will be safe to assume that she is gone. In fact, there are rumors of a replacement character called Hera Syndulla, who will fill her spot in the former spin-off show.

Right now, nothing is certain. So fans will have to wait and see how it all unfolds when The Mandalorian returns for season 3. But till then, they have The Book of Boba Fett to watch. And its makers are saying that it will surpass all expectations.
